Default Can you drive without the torque arm.

I am in the middle of doing an m6-a4 swap and I am missing torque arm bracket. Can I drive the car with out it just to get it tuned or will it drive too messed up?

This question has been asked before. All the components are there to do a necessary job. The torque arm resists the force of the axle rotating up under acceleration and down under deceleration, transmitting that force the length of the arm to the tail shaft of the transmission. Without it you would damage any or all of following: the driveshaft, PHB, shocks, and lower control arms.

Do NOT drive your car with out a torque arm. If you do there is the potential for damage to be done.

my torque arm clamshell bolt backed out once, fortunately the torquearm with poly bushing on the end couldn't go up beyond the reverse lockout solenoid or lower than the transmission crossmember so I made it home. with how insanely loose and jerky everything felt with only that much play I definitely wouldn't try driving with none.

Also does anyone know where I can find a torque arm bracket? I know that the bracket for an automatic is different, but does it have to be from a 98-02 ls1 car?

I've broken front of my UMI torque arm once when I was just driving on bad road. Of course, I had to get home somehow so I drove home. Of course you don't step on it when TA is banging on the floor, but I could get home without visible damage. Just scratched DS tunnel a bit

And that's with the TA in place hitting something. No TA means the rearend will rotate up a lot more and the U-Joint is only going to take so much before it binds and snaps the driveshaft or trans tailshaft. I wouldn't do it...

I have an A4 crossmember off my 02. I replaced it with a BMR relocation crossmember. PM me and I can get you squared away with my stock A4 crossmember and stock clamshell for the TA bracket. It includes the rubber bushing. All in decent shape.
