Default what front brakes do i have?

I have a 2000 SS and my front brakes have "corvette" stamped on the caliper, not a sticker. did they come with these? did the PO install these? I got the car from a dealer and had no idea of the mods on the car at the time. reason im asking is the mounting bracket (bolts to the wheel bearing hub) that holds the brake caliper mount is flaking away literally. I changed a front wheel bearing and I need to find out exactly what I need to replace it lol.

They deff did not come with "Corvette" calipers, would be better if we had some photos to help you out.

Yea someone did the C5 front brake conversion to allow you to run a larger diameter rotor and bigger pad.

No need for pictures, if you have corvette calipers on the front, there is a bracket bolted to your spindle with 4 bolts around the wheel speed sesor that holds the caliper onto the spindle(as opposed to the caliper directly mounted to the spindle). Previous owner converted them to C5 brakes

It's a C5 conversion of some type, meaning you need Corvette pads. But there are some that use Corvette rotors, and some that use F-body rotors, so you shouldn't assume the rotors are C5. You need to see how big they are. 11.8" are F-body, 12.8" diameter are C5.

I believe this is the piece that is falling apart. what should I replace it with. I only noticed this because I needed to change a front wheel bearing

this isn't a pic of my car but this is what my brakes look like.

If the conversion bracket is falling apart as you say you need to stop driving your car ASAP. That bracket holds your caliper on. Now if it is just rusty or the coating is peeling in them no problem. Are the brackets cracked? Bent? A picture of the damage you are talking about would help. there are many vendors that sell the conversion brackets. UMI makes some nice billet brackets.

If yours are broken in any way I would definitely get a set of "trackbrackets". (J&M Products 22605). Not sure how UMIs compare, but if I was going to do a brake conversion that required a bracket I wouldn't get anything less, those brackets have gone through some serious testing.

I'm not driving it lol. Its put away. It looks like it peeled and oxidized because its literally falling apart. I will order new brackets and take a pic of the old ones when I swap them. One last question will this affect what backspacing I can run on the front with a 15" wheel?
