Default Brake Pad Help Needed!

I'm looking at getting a set of Rotor Works rotors and Hawk Brake pads for my car ('01 Trans Am WS6)

Hawk has three different sets of front pads (High Performance Street Compound) and two different sets of front pads that fit my car.

The fronts are as follows:

.594 Thick $64.98 P/N HB119F.594
.681 Thick $91.35 P/N HB217F.681
.575 Thick $106.83 P/N HB249F.575

The rears:

.540 Thick $79.64 P/N HB112F.540
.653 Thick $93.09 P/N HB250F.653

Really?? Why so many choices??

Why the different thicknesses?

Which ones do I need? If I'm doing just normal "spirited" street driving - should I just go with the cheapest ones??

Thanks!!
Dan

I look forward to seeing the replies to this! I am buying rotors from brakemotive and I planned on getting hawks pads, but like you I don't really know which ones.

Brendan

This is what I decided to go with:

P/N HB249F.575
P/N HB250F.653

Tire Rack recommends these as the pads for the car AND they were recommended to me on another web site.

FYI - the WS6 Store sells them as a package deal cheaper than anywhere I could find buying them individually (fronts and backs).

That is also what I am going to go with.

I'm guessing the different thicknesses available might due to whether or not you have heat-shielding shims. I have titanium shims in my car, and they take up 1mm of the space used by the pads. Thus, I require thinner pads than normal.
