Default Fbody C5 Z06 Brake Uneven Wear

Hello,

I recently installed the UMI C5 brake conversion kit for my 1995 Camaro Z28.
I noticed right away that the pad/rotor contact area does not seem correct, the pads are wearing more on the outside of the rotor than the inside.

The car only has about 800 kilometers of travel on them since the installation. I am unsure how to proceed, I've contacted UMI for further assistance so I am waiting on a response. I followed the instructions perfectly. Had no problems with the installation and the brakes actually feel fine. There are no vibrations or pulling, they just don't seem to be making proper contact.

The inside of the rotor makes perfect contact and is wearing evenly. I greased the sliders properly but not excessively, everything was brand new so I would not imagine they would be the culprit.

I've attached a picture for reference, the picture was taken about 70 kilometers after the installation. Since then the wear has got better but still is not full contact. I would say its wearing about a half inch more towards the inside of the rotor.

Thank you for any and all advice.

Also I forgot to mention that the wear is exactly the same on both sides of the car. Both sides wear perfectly on the inside as well. I bled the fronts after install but not the rears. I know it's not proper procedure but I have not had time to bleed the whole system.

Are those calipers new or used?

If they are used the caliper is spread open.

It's very common on C5 Calipers, C6 Calipers are better at not doing it.

Won't hurt anything, just flip the pads in the caliper every 5k miles. Once the pads conform it will be fine.

If those calipers are from a reman place or used they are spread open. Very common on cars used for trackdays or Autox.

This occurs on my fenco remanufactured caliper pretty badly. I have bad spread on that.

I would think the c5 calipers would be less prone to spread.. but maybe not?

Here I thought the whole idea was to move to c5 calipers which are pressure cast and less prone to spreading

The C6 brakes are the same caliper and pad as the C5, the difference is just a slightly larger rotor.

Any idea what's causing the OP's issue? Is it caliper spread?

Caliper is not the same, C6 caliper has better ribbing across it's back to help with spreading.

From KORE3's site

Q: Are the red C5 ZO6 calipers different or better than the standard black C5 calipers? What about the C6 2-piston calipers?

A: C5 Z06 calipers are functionally identical to the standard matte black C5 caliper and PBR calipers. The C6 front caliper however is 20-30% more rigid than the C5 front calipers thanks to heavier ribbing across the bridge.

Dimensionally the same, yes.

C5,C5 Z06 and C6 base brakes use the exact same size rotor. C5 and C6 Z51 cars use a slightly larger rotor.

Caliper spread is the OP's issue.

Unless you track day or autocross they will be fine, the pads conform pretty quickly.

Flip the pads in the caliper every 5k miles or so.

Or, take those calipers off, go to the parts house and swap them for some remans. C6 remans if ya can get them.

True. Still I guess a small price to pay for a brake upgrade!

Sorry I forgot about this thread hahaha the wear has got better but the passenger side is still a little bad. The calipers are brand new so thy shouldn't have any problems. I think it's a pad issue I might swap in new pads, it's been about 5k and it's improved but not perfect
