ABS to no ABS

ABS to no ABS
I have a 2002 Z28 automatic and I just got my rear end replaced with one from a 98 with 3 channel ABS. My mechanic has already installed the new rear end and it obviously has the ABS indicator lit. My mechanic didn't know about replacing the parts in order to convert it to a 4 channel. Is this something that I can fix after the fact? Is it more dangerous to drive without ABS? I'm not with my car right now as I'm stationed in Mississippi and my car is in NY, but it is being delivered to me in a week or 2. Any advice on how to use my brakes would be great lol

You do not NEED abs, it is a good thing to have a on a daily driver. The only time you really need it is on skippy roads were you can slide very easily. Now if you drive your like i do and only drive it on nice days then drive it like there is nothing wrong. The only thing is if your following someone and they brake check you and slam on your brakes you can slide. But you should be fine, hope this helps

It was basically plug and play for him. You need your brake backing plates, your sensors, and your axles and the ABS will function just like before. If you used the 3 channel axles, the 3 channel backing plates, or did not install the sensors, then no it will not work. And, I'm assuming the backing plates are different where the hole for the sensor is, they may not be, just trying to cover all the bases.

So I am not only lacking ABS, but I'm lacking TC as well? Is it easy to swap the axles? That was what my mechanic was concerned with. I still have the old one, but wont be able to change it for 4 months. Would you recommend driving my car without it or should I just let it sit until I get back?
Also when people say to replace the axles do they mean the axle shafts? I'm learning as much as I can be googling and youtube, but I need solid info to tell my mechanic.

Up to and including 98,Auburns were used,99 and later got Torsens differentials.
Axles and axle shafts are two different terms for the same part and they are interchangeable between the two rearends. Axles slide out once the c-clips are removed. Backing plates(caliper mounting bracket and dust shield with e-brake assembly)are fastened to the rearend housing with 4 bolts.
Driving it now will be like driving a car without ABS & TC,totally driveable.
