Default Does a Tow Hitch add any structural integrity?

Hey everyone, bought my Trans Am a week ago and I've noticed that there is a tow hitch bolted into the frame by three bolts. It's a Drawtite apparently good for 2000 lbs (Why you would tow something with this car I have no idea. Guy I bought it from said previous owner had it installed.

I'm thinking about removing it but I'm wondering if it adds any strength to the chassis or if it is just dead weight that I don't need. I know it's an odd question, but it's connecting both ends so I wasn't sure if leaving it on would have any benefits at all.

Thanks as always

Dead weight. I have towed with my Camaro, I towed a pickup bed on a 4'x4' trailer from CT to WV, and a jetski with some leaf springs and bumpers for my truck from CT to WV in 9" of snow.

Tire trailer for autocross is the only reason I can think of having one. I will be getting one this winter since I cannot afford a diesel truck and car trailer.

Make the car go fast and make it into a parachute mount!

Just kidding. Unless you are planning on doing power tour or drag week, ditch the hitch, it's not doing anything for you
