Educate a noob on the advantages of lowering
Lurking around on this site for years, I've run into many a thread full of F-body owners who always recommend lowering the car from stock height. Now, I'll admit that it does look better with a lowered stance. With that said, is this the only reason to lower the car?
It seems like you have to go out of your way to invest in suspension mods (springs, shocks, K-member, LCA's?) to give a lowered car adequate/proper drivability. Plus I see guys who have cars whose bumbers and exhaust are pretty damn close to the ground, which gives me, the uneducated car enthusiast, reason to believe that bottoming out would be fairly common in cars with this stance.
Am I missing something here? Can someone show me the light on the matter, or am I on the right track with this line of thinking?

Lowering the car lowers the center of gravity which leads to better handling characteristics. To offset the chance of "bottoming out" stiffer springs are utilized which also leads to better handling.
Technically, you don't "need" anything else when lowering your car but shocks are highly recommended as well as a LCA relocation bracket.

FYI you can still make your car handle really good with out lowering springs. Get a set of Koni SA shocks, with a set of stranos sway-bars, better tires. Then for a virtually free mild lowering do the hose mod with the rear springs (about 1/2" drop), and up front set the lower spring seat snap ring down In the lower slot/groove of the Koni SA shocks (about 3/4" drop).

Thanks for the replies so far. Didn't even think of the car's center of gravity changing when you lower it (learn something new everyday).
Does a 1/2" drop (like from the hose mod) really affect anything in terms of driving? Or is it merely for aesthetic purposes?
