Default Grind "Corvette" off my z06 calipers

I was going to use a dremel to grind off this logo, and then paint it and apply afterthought's t/a logo. Someone else mentioned that this wasn't a good idea as it may weaken the caliper. Thought's?

I'd avoid grinding on calipers. You may find a way to fill it, but I'd not grind it off. And, anything you fill it with, will probably come loose from the heat cycling that brakes endure. But maybe there is something out there that will work.

I'm not trying to flame, so please don't read it that way, but my question is if you have a Z06, why would you want to put TA logo's on your calipers? Just asking out of curiosity.

LOL Nevermind, I just put 2 & 2 together and got 9. I see now what you're going after. lol Good idea. I would just use common sense. Check out the calipers, and see how deap you would have to go. If it's only on the surface, then I'm sure you could get away w/ it. If you had to go in 1/2 inch, you may want to reconsiter though.

It's all raised lettering, maybe a little less than 1/4". I don't see how it could introduce stress cracks. But I know little about thermal stress, and caliper design. I just see corvette and want it off.

If you grind the "corvette" off the caliper you'll have a nice shiny smooth surface and the rest of the caliper will still look cast. If you feel you can grind it off without getting the caliper too hot, then it'll be ok. Otherwise you'll cause the caliper to twist or distort or just plain weaken. They're aluminum so don't grind too hard or you'll have very expensive paper weights.

I dont see why you couldnt, several people have taken and smoothed their stock rotors, I doubt saying corvette ads anything strength-wise to the calipers.. the mold probably just had corvette cut into it....

Take your time and sand the rest of the caliper down and smooth it all out...

Yeah I would agree - grind off the word "Corvette" and then sand down the rest of the surface so the appearance is uniformly smooth. Spray with caliper paint if desired. Shouldn't hurt it at all.

Sorry, I was thinking it was "cast in" not "cast on" the caliper. I'd make sure you remove all grinding marks so cracks can't form and only take off what you need to remove.

just go back to stock LS1 brakes if you don't want them to say 'vette. The difference in construction is no real gain for the average car, there may be a slight advantage if you're an extreme road race guy.

You ever thought of taking them to a machine shop? They can probably shave off most of the lettering (correct me if I am wrong). I had a shift **** powdercoated white, then took it to a machine shop to get the top shaved. That left the shift pattern white in the alluminum. They didn't even charge me to shave it.

if your ever grinding and heat is a concern just add water... look at cnc machines- they use liquid to cool the drill and heads that they are porting.
