Default Can you take the upper ball joint boot off?

I ripped mine using that damn pickle fork and I read in a past thread that you can replace only the boot instead of the entire joint. Is this true? I tried to remove the boot but it looks as though it is pressed in there? Also if I end up getting a new ball joint do they come pre greased? If not how do I get the grease up in there?

I ended up buying the entire joint for 50 bucks, I could not see a way to just replace the boot.
