Default BMR TQ arm broke!

I launched it hard and hit 2nd gear and the TQ arm ripped at the weld and bent near the rearend. And It ripped the bolts right out of the top of the rearend. Anyone know If this can be covered under a warrenty, I mean it has to be manufacturer defect if the weld broke.

According to this thread ...

https://ls1tech.com/forums/suspension-brakes/190387-bmr-k-member-broke.html

because so many BMR torque arms are sold, a few will break. Sucks it was you.

Call up BMR. They should definitely cover that.

Kinda of hard to tell from the picture but what type of bolts did you use to mount the TA to the rear end?

THIS IS NOT BMR'S FAULT!
Looks to me like its a Moser rear end. you know with the four bolts holding the TA in, and those have been known to back out. that is THE reason i didn't get a Moser rear end.
You gotta know how a chassis and its components work. if all the bolts are tight and long enuff to not be ripped out then there is absoltuly no way this could happen.
If the TA was faulty it would have broke one of the rod ends or another weld.
And if you read carefully. Straight off of the BMR instructions.

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO MOSER 12 BOLT USERS: This product is only warrantable on rear axles that utilize the factory style "through bolts" to connect the torque arm to the rear end. Moser 12 bolt rear ends utilize a threaded bolt hole that has been proven to have bolt retention issues when used with aftermarket torque arms. If you have this particular rear axle, understand this warranty disclaimer and still wish to use this product, keep in mind that lock washers, or Loctite brand thread sealants are not substitutes for periodic bolt inspection.

Hmmm my Moser 9" does use the stock through bolts. I wonder if you could modify it somehow, maybe by drilling and/or welding.

I didn't know this either. It was installed at Speed inc. and they never told me about there being problems w/ the moser rearend. so are you just supposed to check the bolts regularly since they come loose or is there a way to fix this problem?

What somw people have done is weld the BMR TA bracket to the rear end. I guess this would be the only way to fix it. I'de go ahead and weld the bolt in after they were torqued too.
It looks to me like you can take off your bracket, beat it straight, grind the powder coating off, reweld the broken welds and then weld the whole thing to your rear end.

I just make sure to always check the torque on my T/A bolts right before I head up to the track. I've heard about this being a problem for a long time. Seen every brand get destroyed because of it, BMR, Spohn, and yes, even the LG.

Those bolts look way wimpy compared to what's
stock on my factory rear & TA. Doesn't look like
a Grade 8 bolt neither (hardened bolts won't smear
the threads like that), and only in by 4 threads?
Ick. Ow.

Once that bolt let go there's a bending force on
the lower weld that it won't (and never should
have to) take.

They (BMR) might still cut you a break and replace it,
but I think it's "circumstances beyond their control"
on this one.

This is one of the reasons I went with the Strange over the Moser 12-bolt since the Strange retains the factory through bolts. I would say that some Loctite red at a minimum should be used on the Moser-style bolts and use bolts with as much thread engagement as possible.

Mine did that with the stock torq arm. Then when I got the BMR I used locktite and MAD TORQ when installing them. After you get them in. Mark them with something. Then you can just check them every now and again to see if they have moved by looking at the marks. It will hold of you get them tight. You just have to know that they have to be REAL TIGHT!
