Default Brake/ABS Help

I have a strange problem with my 99 Z28. Under normal braking conditions, the ABS kicks in, and the low traction light comes on, even though the pavement is dry. The brake pedal vibrates as if I was sliding in rain or snow. Any ideas on why it would be doing this? Thanks

Luke

Too much toe in or out can cause that without you realizing it. Is the alignment good?

Do you have the same size tire diameter all the way around?
Did you do a ratio change in the rearend?

The rear gears are the stock 3:42's. The tires are 235's in the back, and 245's in the front. Makes no sense, but that is the way it came. Could that cause it as well?

This could be part of it . Mismatched tire diameters can and will cause this to happen. I don't know how tolerant the system is to mismatching. Are the tires the same aspect ratio?

lol....thats odd........

why would you have larger tires on the front than in the rear (this is a rear wheel drive car you know )? I would swap those around just for traction purposes.

I don't think it's odd. You probably have the firebird 235/55/16 on the rear due to it being slightly taller than the trans am 245/50/16 front. I've seen cars like this before. I'd just keep them in the same spot. I would replace the 235's as soon as you can and see if that makes the braking better.

Has it done this since you got the car or did it start recently?

Have you had the alignment checked recently?

Do you know your tire pressures?

Are your brake pads worn down?

Can you tell if it's the front or rear that wants to lock up?

Try pulling the ABS fuse under the hood and do some stops. Try and get it to lock up. Are all the tires sliding, or just one?

Usually, the 235/55-16's are the V6 or non performance package tires. Or, someone got them cheap off of a person with a V6 who upgraded wheels. The factory didn't send cars out with mismatched tires, at least not on purpose.
