Default Questions Z06 Calipers on a Fbody

Ok ive found a set of used Z06 calipers I want to put on my fbody. I know one or two people have done this. Can I use both the fronts and rears? I thought someone made a bracket to do this anybody know who? I know the C5 calipers in the front have alittle more pad surface area than the Fbodies but do the rears too? Is there any difference between normal C5 calipers and Z06 calipers other than they are red?

I know for sure there is no difference in the caliper. I think lmperformance------->
sells brakets to mount them. I don't know if you can use both the front and rears though. Hope this helps.

The brackets allow you to use the larger Corvette rotors in the front.

Here are some links to help you out:

This is just a sampling of what I found when I did a search for "z06 caliper"

I run the Z06 calipers with the stock brackets and rotors. No issues, basically bolted right on.

Can you run them on 16" wheels? I have 16" TA wheels which are suppose to have more inner clearance on the rims.

If you run the Z06 caliper in lieu of the F-body caliper - vitually identical, but construction is different, so it is a direct swap. Use the F-Car basket and pads, but the Corvette caliper. The Corvette caliper is stronger, with additional ribs, pressure cast, and has some more clamping force. Some of the ribs may need to be ground ( I have heard)

That setup would fit under 16" wheels.

An option is to upgrade to the Corvette 13" rotor, which requires a modification bracket, from LG Motorsports.

16" wheels will not fit over the 13" rotor.

The rear brakes are a worthless change. Both cars use a 12" rotor.

The Corvette caliper uses smaller pistons and actually reduces "clamping" load on the caliper. This was in response to the larger rotors on the Corvette. The larger rotor adds braking force to the front, the smaller pistons help reduce it some to balance the brakes bias back out. Just thought I'd mention it.

So if you wanted maximum braking effort (the car's, not
your foot's) would the hot ticket be to use the Camaro
calipers, but get these brackets anyway to locate them
another 1/2" out and use 'Vette rotors?

So can I just get some Z06 calipers and bolt them up and they will be good to go? The only reason I want them is because they are red

That would result in increased braking force. However, the Corvette caliper is stronger (just something to consider for extreme track use) and is better suited for abuse.

Is there a GM caliper around that has the combination
of Camaro piston area and 'Vette casting strength?

How much / what kind of abuse do you have to put on
a Camaro caliper before it spreads or warps? Will full
pedal pressure do it? I'd guess that if you put it out
further on a 'Vette rotor, you would get more braking
for less pressure and that would be easier on the
caliper (on both axes) for the same braking effect?

The larger diameter would offer more braking for less pressure. You are correct.

Here are some threads that outline some of the "life" that people are seeing out of an F-body caliper.

Excuse my ignorance but could you post links for these brackets?
I looked at LG's and LMP's websites and couldn't find them.

Thanks.

I don't think they are on the site, but I've not looked in a while.

Yes, I did the same thing when my driver's side bleeder bolt siezed and wouldn't come out instead of breaking.
