what advantages or disadvantages does removing the front swaybar have? i've seen it and/or heard about it a few times on here but haven't caught why people do it. thanks~

Drag racers do it in order to take weight off the front end in order to help the front to rear weight transfer. The problem is that doing so turns your car's handling into that of a large boat.

I took mine off about a month ago. Street driving isn't all that bad, but I still have 285 tires on the front. I think with a narrower tire it would be more noticeable. The front end definately lifts harder, though. For now it's staying off.

Have you encountered any emergency maneuvering situations on the street without it? That will make you wish you had it.

If you have a stiff enough shock and spring combo up front it's not bad at all. Last fall I had a peice of fire wood fall out of a truck infront of me on the highway and I had to cut the wheel quick. The car handled the situation much better than expected. I though for sure I was going the break one of my 15x3.5 Prostars.

Yep, it's simple. The ends links will more that likely snap when coming off if your car has seen any water.

i never bothered putting one on the front when i bought my car last year(it didn't have front or rears) i talked to one guy whose owned and (drag)raced a bunch of 4th gen fbodies and he was saying with some setups he got enough traction that he ran faster without the rear as well....my rear eibach bar helped a ton though.....anyways, i've had to make quick evasive manuvers and the car handles fine(kyb 8ways and eibach sportlines 16/245 nittos 455s in front)......the only time it got a little loose feeling was racing a cobra and an srt-10 quad cab past 120mph through the curves on 696.....that's not something i do too much of though, everyday driving is fine....-josh

I only take mine off for the track. It helps A LOT for launching. On the street it's just too damn scary.

Ok, I'll step back in just to mention one thing that no one else has. Ragin here is 17 and probably does not have the driving skills that GM Muscle does. Regardless of whether or not you can handle this vehicle without a front swaybar is a moot point. However, this kid already has his vehicle dropped, which isn't going to help his 60 ft. time anyway. Removing the front swaybar will be pointless. That being said, would any of you recommend removing a component that has a significant impact on vehicle handling and control on a vehicle driven by a 17 year old? I wouldn't.

(This is by no way intended to be insulting to the original poster... merely factual.)

oh come on Nate, live a little. I've had my swaybar off for 8 months now and I drive on Skinnies 24/7 and its not even that bad. Maybe my Eichach springs help a little, but I cant imagine why people say its so terrible in corners

yeah, i honestly don't get the "it's so dangerous" posts......my car without the front bar handles better than my 94 ever did with both bars......there are other factors involved, but i'd like to hear from anybody out there who's actually been in an accident because they didn't have a front sway.....if they were, chances are they were driving like an *** anyways......just my opinion, but i'm not buying the danger argument, even for spirited street driving

mine has been off for 2 years. a STB helps A LOT with flex if you have no sway bar. If you don't hvae that then be carefull on the streets without the bar, but yes a lot of people do it.

If you have Eibach lowering springs... why the hell would you pull the front swaybar anyway? You've already modified your suspension in a way that's not ideal for drag racing...

my cars lowered 2 inches without an adj t/a and i ran a 12.5 with a 1.8 60' last summer............didn't have a swaybar when i bought it, never put one on.......a little faster now with the ssf 4200 (as opposed to the stock stall last year).....low and fast and driven every day.....

I've had mine off for about a month now. Before I took it off, I went and found a curve to hang, just so I could see how big of a difference it was going to be. As soon as I got it off, I went right back to that curve and did it again. when I first went into it I could tell it rolled just a little, but it took it with no problem. I've let my friends drive it since then and didn't even know it was off until I told them. It doesn't make a big difference at all. It's just like different cars drive different ways, but once you get use to how a car drives, its no problem. I don't plan on ever putting my back on, my car feels so good leaving the line now, and I only pull low 170 sixty ft. times.

I take mine off for the track all the time, but I get lazy and usually end up driving for a couple weeks before I put it back on. There's definitely a bit more roll, though I do have QA1 shocks and with them set midway on 6, it still handles about as good as it did on the stock shocks with the bar.

Even when I had the stockers on there, its not THAT bad - still better than say, an SUV or a Buick. You just have to be aware of it and not take the corners as quick.
