Thumbs up UMI lca's review and questions

UMI makes very nice lca's. I bought the non-adj in red they look beautiful and fit great. They fixed a squeak my front bushing on my driver side lca was making. This squeak sounded like a bird was being tortured behind my car.

My question is now that other things can be heard since the squeak is gone should these lca's be more clunky then the stock ones? Also what else can rattle and clunk from the rear?

thanks

Did you upgrade the bolts too? If you didn't, I'd suggest that. My first attempt to install the arms I couldn't get the new bolts from UMI in the fronts so I put the stockers back in. It made a horrible clunk even after I retightened it several times. So I made another go at the fronts this past weekend with a friend, having another set of hands did the trick and no more clunks at all. Just a thought...

Good to hear everyone is pleased.

Yes do as suggested and try retightening the bolts. Tighten them up 90 ft lbs if needed and this should do the trick. The stock setting is 72 ft lbs.

Hope that helps!

Ryan (UMI) seems to make a great product and take good care of you.

Yes, you can overgrease them. You don't want to buldge the bushings with the grease gun (if you put too much in, the sides will swell and begin to get pushed out of position). I'd just use a few squeezes of the grease gun on each side and you should be fine.

well i am not a 10 sec guy but i have tested them at the track. I had the bad z lca's and they rattled like **** and i am glad i dont have to put up with that **** anymore, but i was cutting 60's in the 1.8 range w/ them and now im in the 1.9 range. i cant launch my car or my rear will go boom but i have a 12 bolt coming. i do like the umi lca's but they dont hook up as good as the ones i had.

Silverbeast- I am glad to hear you like the set-up you have from us. I remember when you had placed your order, it was in the early stages of when we just sponsored this site. I remember your complaints on noise and I think it was your wife that didn't want to ride in the car anymore.

The reason you are seeing a slight traction loss now is before you had a rod end/rod end (Solid bushing/Solid Bushing) set up. Now what you have is a polyurethane busing/Rod end set. The polyurethane bushing will deflect or give more then a solid bushing will. Now the benefit of that control arm is you now have your ride quality back and your wife is happy

Regards,
Ryan

So the rod end/rod end setup hooks up better?

The Rod/Rod setup will elminate virtually all deflection from the LCA's. This is a very solid setup and will keep the axle right where it was intended to be. A poly bushing can give somewhat and allow the axle to make some slight movements that it shouldn't make. Is it a great amount of play? Not really, but it is some and apparently enough that the difference (in this case) is showing in his track times.

Thanks Kevin (trackbird) very well said and very true. This shows the difference in bushing set-ups in a real world case.

No problem Ryan.

Losing .1 second from your 60 foot time is a small thing, keeping the wife/girlfriend happy is priceless.
