Extend to make them long enough for what? That is not needed when you are installing them on the car. They go right in as they come out of the box.

http://www.ls1howto.com/

Check that site out and read over #9 and #10 in the F-body column. They go over the install of both the front shocks/springs and rear shocks/springs.

Also don't tackle the front shocks/springs by yourself. It's doable but it's a real PITA. It makes it much easier to have an extra set of hands or two to help out.

If you are going to do it by yourself, and its your first time, be prepared for a headache.

I spent about 6 hours doing the drivers-side front shock. I had the common problem of the top damper nut being completely rusted on, after hours of break-away getting me nowhere, I ended up cutting the damper rod in half. Talk about a pain... Re-assembly was fairly straight forward, after figuring out which way the spring needed to be oriented to get the mounts to all line up.

I really think if you knew what you were doing, it would only take about 1.5 hours per side. The rears are a piece of cake, 30 minutes each or so...
