Re: HAL Drag Shocks - How do we use stock springs?
It's about time you got rid of those stockers....spending some of that knockout box money???
I can't help you on the stock spring mod, since I went with the HAL springs. If you want soft, then get the HAL's. I did a dry hop with the shocks set on 1 and my CROSSMEMBER banged the ground. I saw stars! I now have proof that FLP's hang slightly lower than the crossmember.

Tony,
You have to modify the stock spring seats to use factory springs up front. Thunder sells modified ones for $50 + exchange or you could do it yourself. I have the HAL drag springs up front, so this wasn't needed for my car.

I am still running stock springs in the rear. If I do change, it would be to the V6 springs.

You can cut your factory spring seats down with a dremel tool or even a chop saw (we've done both in our experimenting days) but a machine lathe works the best for a nice smoothe cut. We sell a good bit of our pre-cut ones to people who don't want to waste several hours messing with cutting their stock ones.

I had the Hal front shocks and springs, as well as the rear Hal shocks, on my T/A. I kept the stock springs in the rear, and I doubt I'd get the rear Hals again. You can firm up the rear with airbags if ya need to. Right after the Hal setup was installed, I took the car to HRP. I had one 1.53 and three 1.54 60's. That's the most consistent that car EVER was for 60' times!

Hals are on my little wish list also.
I'm curious what the disadvatage is to using the stock rear shock with hal shock/springs in the front?? Just getting the front combo would really save quite a few bucks.
Also...how much if any will the hals lower the front end??
Thanks guys

Re: HAL Drag Shocks - How do we use stock springs?
I just bought HAL shocks. Got the whole kit from BMR for $730 with 3 day shipping. Came with springs and spanner wrench. I know a guy here in the Springs who used the stock front springs and he needed modification.
Let me tell you. There are 12 settings, I set it on 6 and those things are stiff.

As far as I know there is know disadvantage to using the stock rears. My car launches just fine w/ them. Colonel actually recommended to me not to get the rears because I would just end up setting to stock like tightness. Thanks for saving me money Colonel.
As far as ride height, you can set that w/ a spanner wrench.

Steve

Re: HAL Drag Shocks - How do we use stock springs?
I got the Hal Shocks and springs and my 60'times are unbelievably consistant. We are talking within thousands for the 3 runs I made with them. My question is ride height. I have been screwing around with it for 1 week now. The first time when I lowered my car to check the height, my tires disappeared in the fender well... How far up do you guys have those nuts? Mine are 7.5 inces up from the underside of the bottom nutto the base of the cylinder before it angles inward. Also are you guys lowering the rears down and how? I was thinking about those coil compressors so I didn't have 3-4 inches over the rear tires and 1 1/2 over the front.

I think it works out that for every 1/4" you move the spring seats up, you get a 1/2" of lift, or vice versa for moving them down.

The seats are easy to modify. I did it with a hacksaw and dremel and it took about 20 mins each. There are some diagrams here.

Don't waste your money on the spanner wrench though it is crap. A big set of channel locks is so much better.

Re: HAL Drag Shocks - How do we use stock springs?
Its like everyone has said. You just need to dremel out the insid of the spring seat to allow the thicker diameter shock to slide thru. Everything else is the same as any other shock.

Tony, as much as you street drive your car, I don't think you would like the Hal springs in the front. They are too soft for a daily driver IMHO

So, just open up the hole that the shock passes thru huh? Sounds easy enough. And, we can still adjust the height too huh? Cool!
I like the way my car rides stock, didn't feel the need to buy the other springs.

YOu have to cut off part of the seat. Look at this, I think it will show up.
