Default How many coils should be cut for a 1.5 in drop?

I am going to cut the stock springs. How many coils would be sufficient for a 1.5 in drop? TIA

cutting springs is unrecommended - much better (and safer) to buy specially made lowering springs. And new shocks. And a camber kit.

Don't they make drop spindles. Keep in mind your suspension geometery. Say No to oversteer....

go to www.techls1.com (or here) and page Just Me. he chopped his springs. looks good too. I was thinking he said like 1.5 to 2 coils. but i dont know exactly how much he lowered his. You definately want some LCA brackets. let me see if i have a pic.

cool!
Yep that's my car.
I cut 2 coils off the fronts and removed the rear spring rubber isolators.

The street handling is very good.Cutting a spring stiffens it.

But for dragracing it also hurts front end rise and this hurts weight transfer.I didn't really care about that and it was free vs buying new springs.
Got most of the traction back with homemade 3.125" lowering brackets for the rear LCA'S.

I actually cut the coils while still on the car.
It's a tricky operation though <img src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" border="0">

Did the same thing on John@Paceparts car.

I would start out with 1 coil.
This will give you more negative camber so you may want to adjust it afterwards.

I am going to be cutting the rear springs on my Formula as I hate the way the car sits up so high in the back, at least an inch more than it should. Even with 70lbs of weight in the trunk (for winter traction) and a full tank of gas, my car still sits too high in the back! I don't want to lower the front, and I certainly don't want to spend tons of money buying a set of four springs when all I need is two. A lot of people warned me that cutting the springs will upset the handling but I bet you any money I won't even notice any difference at all on my car, especially since I'm not into autocrossing at all.
