Default Nitto 555 variants - What's the difference?

Nitto NT 555R Drag Radial "Get the competitive advantage at the track and on the street"

Nitto NT 555R Extreme "Competition Radial for Road Racing"

Nitto NT 555 Extreme Performance "Make no mistake, this tire is built for performance"

I know lots of people like the plain old "drag
radials", what's the difference between these
and the other two, slightly higher priced ones
(besides that they have "Extreme" candy coating)?
Has anybody tried more than one Nitto version
and have any observations re drag, street, hard
driving, longevity, wet traction, etc.?

Differences are the Drag Radial is designed for straight line performance and not so much on cornering, wears quickly. The comp radial is for autocross and roadracing, not quite as good in straight line, but corners well, wears quickly. The last one is a daily driver tire, not as good at cornering or straight line, but wears the slowest.

Which one would be the best one for good wet traction and good street traction for a daily driver?.....how much do they cost?....would it be the Nitto 555 Extreme Performance?.....i heard the Nitto Drags are somewhat questonable out in the wet weather?..........Please chime in on this....

the last one Nitto 555 will be the best all around tire. I've got them on my car and love em.

The RR tire is good for the front, and the DR is good for the back. Theyre not that bad in the rain as long as you use your head and dont make crazy decisions (large amount of standing water) and watch where you drive <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

Sorry to bring this thread up from the dead, but i thought it worthless to make a new one about the same thing, man this thing is 2 years old, but anyway, for a daily driver w/350rwhp which of these tires would be best? I need traction, the tires i have now suck, and the car is bouncing off of the rev limiter due to EXCESSIVE tire spin, so i need to stick, and i'd like decent treadwear, any suggestions? thanks

The Nitto 555DR is still a good choice all around as long as you don't drive too awfull much. If you drive more than say,,,, something like 20-25K a year, think about the Kumho MX.

I've owned all 3.

The regular tire "Nitto NT 555 Extreme Performance" is just that, a regular tire. Good in the rain, terrible for sticking. Great for "lighting em' up".

The DR is awesome on the street. But if you put a radial up front and a DR in the back ( as I did for 8 months ) you will push like a pig if you do any cornering.

In comes the 555R Extreme. Awesome tire. Hooks just as well as the DR, but with a slightly stiffer sidewall.

I usually daily drive the RII's till September or so then switch to the regualr 555 for late fall duty as it can get nasty here quickly. Put the car away in December every year.

Wish like heck that Nitto would whittle up a 555RII in a 315 size, They have had the 275 out for like two years or so,,,, why no 315????

Nitto 555 is a street tire
Nitto 555R is a drag radial tire
Nitto 555RII is autox tire.

555R and 555RII have the exact same compound and thread, but the RII has 2 steel-plies compared to 1 for the 555R... hence the R has a lowere speed rating than the RII.
also note that the RII have very limited sizes available.

I have no experience with them but I've heard favorable comments from folks. Tire has a treadwear of 220, the BFG KDs {which is a pretty sticky true street tire} has a treadwear of 200.

Here is a link to the MXs, click on reveiws and read a few-

I think the 285 is about the widest they make in a 17.
