Default changing brake fluid?

anybody ever bleed out their old brake fluid and put in new fluid? I would like to do it but don't know if I will mess anything up being the car has abs. I have done it on my old 77 impala with drum brakes and cleaned out the system with denatured alcohol. can anyone explain to me on how to do this the safe way? I have never done this so I am very cautious. thanks <img src="images/icons/confused.gif" border="0">

Default Re: changing brake fluid?

To do a complete flush, have 2 pints of fluid on hand. Be aware that brake fluid will ruin paint, so be very careful. First release pressure from the vacuum booster by depressing the pedal three or four times. You want to get any dirty fluid out of the ABS module. While someone presses the pedal, carefully open the nut on top of the ABS module marked MC2. Fluid will squirt, so have toweling ready to catch it. Close the nut, release pedal pressure just like bleeding at the calipers. Do this until you get clear fluid. You might also get some air. After this do the same on the nut marked MC1. I think pre 98's have bleeders for this. Then you do the calipers in order of passenger side rear, driver side rear, passenger front and then driver's side front. Bleed most of the fluid from the passenger rear which is the longest and work toward the driver's front which is the shortest. Don't introduce anything other than brake fluid. Just keep bleeding til you get clear fluid out with no air.
Forgot, keep the master cylinder full so you don't run it dry while diong this.
