Default Alignment (Suspension/tire)

Firestone can't align my car with GM tool XXXXXX. What tool is this, and where can I find one for cheap? I believe it's for the castor. My car has some nasty tire wear ont he last set of tires, and I'm looking for this tool to reduce the castor by 2 degrees or so.

Let me know what I need, because I've got a Z28 owner for alignments. he can't get the tool either. I think he said it was 240$ from Matco or something ridiculous like that.

Does anyone know where to get the castor alignment tool?

Uh yeah. Check the results.

my left is out .2 degrees, not a problem.
My right is out 2.5 degrees.

Sometimes the best they can do and "OK" are not acceptable.

I could probably buy it for what they would charge to use it.

you don't need the tool, but it would be nice to have.

I use a comealong thingy and the stock openings in the control arm to pull the arms to the position i want.

You got to be kidding me! You don't need that tool, you just need a tech that knows what the hell he's doing. Tell his dumb *** to put the alignment machine in raised wheel mode and jack the front of the car by the body not the subframe, loosen the bolt for the caster adjustment and pry the arm to adjust.

Just proof how many techs(if that's what you want to call them) have no idea how alignments and/or the machines work. Alot of these retail auto repair establishments bring guys in and show them the basics of an alignment and give them no actual training.

As for the caster problem, regardless of what they told you caster is not what's wearing your tires. Caster is not a tire wearing angle. Caster will create pull and it effects steering effort but will not wear the tires. Camber and toe are your tire wearing angles.

The toe was out, but so is the castor. Thanks for that info, by the way, I am completely ignorant. The car pulling moderately to the right is an annoyance, though =)

i just got home from doing an alignment on my car at work( i work for toyota) and all i used instead of that tool was a hook wench from autozone that i bought, and raised the front of the car up and had the wench pull it over for me and then i tightened the bolt and it was done. even if u have no tools like the caster camber tool you need once you raise the car and take the load off it the lower arm will move in by itself(depends if its not rusted)
