Question Painting my Calipers... Need Opinions

I would like to paint my calipers black but I wanted to get some opinions on what I should use to paint them. I want them to last and I dont want them chipping any time soon.

What do you guys recommend ?

Any good quality base/clear would be best next to having them powder coated. Any rattle can paint is junk and the high temp paint that everyone uses isnt needed.

I would suggest paying your local body shop to spray them for you. It shouldnt cost mutch at all and they will last a hundred times longer than any aerosol finish. A good quality clear will hold its gloss for years and will resist stains from brake dust/road film ect.

Red is always a good color. I used the Dupli-color brake paint from Autozone about a year ago. put 3 coats of paint on red paint and its still there. I think the kit is like 15.00 and comes in all colors. Thats what i would do.

I'm gonna try this the next go-around:

http://g2usa.com/brake_caliper_paint.shtml

It is a brush-on type of system, and sounds much like POR-15 in its composition and application, so it should be a tough paint.

Like most on here, I rattle-canned my calipers the first time with high-temp paint. It has held up pretty well considering it had been my daily driver for so long up until this last summer, but it is finally starting to chip off and look a little tired. If this paint doesn't live up to my expectations, I'll get them powdercoated. This is just one job I'd like to do myself for personal pride...

Duplicolor makes the same kit that you can pick up at your local auto parts store for cheap

if youre not too picky.. go with the rattle.. makes things a lot simpler.. just buy high temp or caliper paint from your local pep boys, autozone etc.. very cheap.. just make sure you clean off the calipers before beginning. ive had mine for maybe 8 months now.. and no problems no chipping whatsoever.. just hit it with several coats of color and def a lot of coats of clear to protect it from chipping etc... here are mine... turned out real well

^^ I'm curious, did you disassemble the caliper and paint it as a whole or just tape off everything around it and just paint the face? I'm curious as to how many people do either.

The POR-15 is junk, unless you like a soft finish that scratches easy, dulls quickly ect.

Do it right and be done with it.

Where is this randomness coming from? No one has mentioned painting calipers with POR-15...it wouldn't hold up to UV exposure anyways.

I am happy with it. It's easy to put on and easy to do any touch ups if needed.

ive had the duplicolor kit sitting around for so long now! Did you guys who used it have enough paint to get the job done with one kit? I need to find some TransAm decals for the front calipers and then i will get this job started

The g2 kit is pretty good. I did mine two and a half years ago, and they look basically the same as when I first did it. No chipping, fading, dulling...I'd use it again. Except I'd think about taking my calipers off this time instead of doing it on the car.
