Default Konis & Heater Hose Lowering Mod (Pics)

Attached are some pics of my car with the rear spring insulators removed and replaced by heater hose, and with the lower spring mount setting on the Konis on the front.

The parking lot wasn't level; it tapers off to the right side of the car, so you'll notice the difference side to side. But you'll get an idea.

Not as well as my Bilsteins - but I'm getting used to it now. It's just more jarring when it hits the bigger bumps, ridges, holes, etc. The upside is how tightly controlled it is over all surface irregularities.

They are firm, but damn it... when you push them the car is so damn predictable

By any chance did you previously have the car on the koni upper perch with the stock isolators on the rear springs? If so was there any difference (ride / handling) besides the lowered look? Just curious as I have been wanting to go to the lower perch and hose mode and am curious as to any differences.

Well, I had Bilsteins with the isolators. Took out the isolators and it brought down the rear nicely with no difference in ride or handling. But the front looked too high relative to the rear. So when I installed the Konis, I went immediately to the lower perch.

Lowering the front made for less body roll around corners. And the Konis are tighter overall, of course.

BTW, averaged side to side, the measurements are 26 1/4 front and 27 1/2 rear. Stock springs.

Have you tried adjusting the koni's any? I haven't bought a set yet so I have no idea.

They're difficult to adjust on the car because the coils are in the way. I managed to back them off about 1/2 sweep before the holes became inaccessible. I'm open to any tips or special tool suggestions on adjusting them.

So the ride is a tad harsh compared to the Bilsteins but the overall handling is better?

Lets keep this one going guys, I am thinking about the koni's and stock springs with the lower perch as well. If its not worth it than I'll get the stran springs as well, just not sure which way to go. Its pretty much a full street car but when I go to the track I want it to perform the best I can but still keeping the best possible ride on the street. I know you can't have both but personally from what I have read the koni's are by far the best shock for this and its jsut a matter of the springs. Either stock or strano's IMO? Anymore experiences out there guys? Thanks!

Ive had both the stock springs with Konis and Strano's springs with Konis. I prefer the combo with the Stranos. Its a stiffer ride, but its still controled and predictable. You don't loose anything by going with lowering springs besides ground clearance if you choose a good set.

...now if you get sportlines... thats a different story

No its either stock sprins on the lower perch or the higher perk with strano springs. I am leaning towards his springs. Now one more question for you if you don't mind. Difference b/w the koni 4/4 and 4/3 are being able to adjsut the rears on the car right? Both can adjsut the fronts on the car right? Do you really adjsut the rears much? I will be mostly street car but will go to the track once and awhile. If its worth the extra 100 bucks for sure but if really not needed than why right?

edit - LOL, I jsut read your post today in the other thread about changing from the revalves, etc. So the 4/3 are better for heavier rears but give up adjsutability. Sounds like the 3rd gens are better for me but what about the non adjsutabilty drawback? Is it really needed?

I am also thinking about his sway bars too but how do they perform at the strip anyone? This couople with the double adj pnahard as well as LCA's. I got a random tech T/A already but might as well upgrade to UMI tunnel mount while I am at. Dang it adds up quick, LOL

i think they way you adj the 3rd gen rears is you remove the bolt that attaches the rear to the shock and then you can adj.

I have about 800 miles on them now. Yes, they are still a tad harsher, but much better than at first. Maybe they were binding a little and needed to break in? That's what it felt like.

Even though they are firmer, and hit the bumps harder, you can still feel that the ride is supple - in other words, the springs are really well damped. I don't think I want to go back. At this point in my mind, the benefits outweigh the minor increase in harshness.
