Default Questions RE: c5/c6 brake upgrade w/ LG brackets

I've got my LG brackets and C5 rotors in the mail. My question is, can I use the Z51 13.4" rotors inside my 17" wheels and with the stock LS1 calipers? Will there be a noticeable difference in stopping power with the extra .6"?

Second question, can I use my stock brake lines or do I need to get the C5 lines?

It stops better than stock now but it's a hard driven daily driver that sees lots of miles so I figure big rotors and HPS pads is a good combo to keep my brake jobs to once a year.

Thoughts from those with experience? Thanks guys!

you need the C5 front lines.
good pads are the key to making this set up work.

To use Z51 brakes, you need Z51 rotors AND pad brackets. With the Z51 and 17" wheels, it will be very, very, very, very, very close. Like less than a sheet of paper clearance most likely. I would not recommend it at all, as a loose wheel bearing could provide just enough wobble to make them touch.

Either stick with base stuff, or go to 18" wheels.

Other things to consider. The C5, C6 and C6 Z51 PAB's use 14mm bolts to attach them. The LS1 PAB's use 12mm bolts. That means you're going to have to drill out the brackets and I can't say if there is enough material there to safely do that (I've not had a set in my hand). But I'm going to guess that will be pushing it. Also, the larger rotor will pull the brake bias forward, using the larger pistons of the LS1 calipers will aggrivate that. It may not be the end of the world, but it's going to be a somewhat signifigant change in brake bias. And, they really don't fit under 17" wheels...

Gotcha. Looks like I am sticking with the regular C5 rotors and stock calipers for now. I've researched this quite a bit and was aware of the bias shift, thanks to you trackbird, thank you. This is a test case, if it's too much forward, I'll sling the C5 calipers on there. I just like the idea of extra bite in the front and hope my shocks and torque arm will help offset what would otherwise be additional forward weight transfer. It's something I am aware of and will be looking at closely after I perform the swap.

For the record, to do the C6 Z51 swap I would need:
the trackbrackets/UMI style swap, including C5 or C6 lines, C5 calipers AND
use the C6 Z51 PABs and rotors with 18" rims. That sound right? That sounds like it may affect brake bias even more, no?

That sounds about right, and it will pull the bias even more towards the front (on an LS1 car, some forward shift isn't a bad thing, but you have to watch how much shift you wind up with).
