Dog vs Monkey
That monkey you have a picture of is small, and stands no chance against a dog bred to hunt and kill puma, jaguar, wild boar. Dogo argentino hunts and kills puma and wild boar http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dogo_argentino
Fila brasiliero has been used to hunt jaguar http://www.moloss.com/001/breed/def/f001/

Tosa inu http://www.moloss.com/breeds/stuvx/t002/
Large mastiff/bulldog breeds have a bite force of over 500psi and would crush a monkey in one bite.

If you decide on a dog a beagle is a good choice. We have two at my house, boy and a girl and my brother also has a boy.
They dont bark dig or howl anymore than any other dog I have known and ours have never had a problem with being in the house all day or going on long car rides. My brother's dog did like to escape when he was younger though.

he is very strong, and they can get aggressive very quickly if something sets them off. 140-170 lbs of pissed off animal is not cool.... I got the dog from a friend on this website actually...
edit: he has been very well trained and is very calm and collected. he is trained (and has proved it) to protect his castle, and all who he knows to be family. good with children, i just dont trust anything, person or animal 100%, and it goes for my own pets.

Neapolitan Mastiff v Chimpanzee
Rhodesian Ridgeback v Baboon
I would pay to watch these and kick the crap out of any PETA members in my way.

You walk the beach with a dog and you would get some attention.
You walk the beach with a spider monkey/simular you would get ***** from all over the beach.
MONKEY > DOG!!!

I think you may be onto something though, chicks would probably be all over a cute little WELL TRAINED monkey more so than a dog. I mean everybody has a dog, not everybody has a monkey. The flinging poo thing isn't bad, you just gotta train them who to fling poo at.

One more vote for a monkey.
id get me a helper monkey, need a trunk monkey for my car. also train to wash my car and degreed cam installs,
prolly do better job of degreeing cam than some shops i know of

Owning a large dog is not for everyone. If you do not have time for the dog they can quickly become uncontrolable. I own a 110 LB rot. She is a great dog but she's been well trained. We work with her a couple times a week. Owning a large dog that you can not control will usually end up with he/she hurting someone, which usually ends up with the owner in court.
I do not suggest owning a large dog if you do not have 2-3 hours of spare time to train the dog each day, then 2-4 hours of spare time each week once the dog is trained. it's not fair to you of the dog if you can not devote this kind of time........

Get a small monkey, expensive, but come on, who do you know that owns a monkey? I would definitely post on craigslist and try to find local owners and talk to them about their daily routines and costs associated with them. Also, monkeys are expensive to buy in the first place.

i´m still thinking about the pros and cons of both, dog would be more fun in general and can be alone without going apeshit
Probably cant potty train the monkey
,or what

Probably cant potty train the monkey
,or what A gorilla is an ape, not a monkey. keving711556 asked who would win between a monkey and a dog. The biggest monkeys are baboons, which are nowhere near that big.
I do believe that's already been stated in this thread, however I was referring to Nwmembr19 and simply saying if you're goinng to use the best of the best dogs, you should put it against the best of the best primates.
