Default Moving to Houston Jan 2010

Whats up. Just wanted to post here about my move to texas as i have some questions. I already asked on thirdgen.org about the emissions stuff but I'll ask here too since I'm thinking of picking up an LS1 car for a driver

I got some guys saying they can get me passed just fine but i just wanted to get more opinions.

From my research certain texas counties require emissions testing both a visual as part of a safety inspection and an actual emisisons test. My car is not legal that way anymore since i have no emissions components as being from Pittsburgh area PA, we have a law that states under 5K miles driven a year the vehicle is exempt from emissions testing both visual and actual testing.

How does it work for you guys down here? How strict are places? I am working in the west side of Houston area, what looks to be about 15 minutes from Katy Texas due straight east.
I guess that whole area is required to do testing?

For what its worth, my car is a 89 camaro Irocz and now has a 401 small block with twin turbos (sig was last year) that do poke out from the sides of the cowl hood. So you can tell this thing aint legal and that concerns me. If i cant take it with me i'll be abit depressed haha.

Anyone know what the fastest smog legal ls1 is? I'd love to throw mild cam in this thing just to make it abit more interesting

Smog legal is boring. It really isn't very hard at all to get a car passed down here. You just got to find someone.

haha i dont get down like that unlike yourself. Car no run so yes its slow

Thats what I'm talking about. I know it can be done, if i can get 375 or more whp and do it smog legal style then i wont have to worry about anything and the car is gonna be a daily driver. The 89 camaro is not and for that car i intend to have someone pass it. 99 TA will not get crazily modded... probly just suspension/wheels/interior and if i do anything maybe small heads/cam setup for abit more daily umphh. But I dont need much, the 89 is for fun.

sup man, im on tgo also. dont post on there too much no more.
I remember the name i believe, was it the same or similar? I'll be on here more and more since I'll be getting the 99 TA early next week i believe

Just drive the car to a smaller town around Houston. Usually in Small towns all they do is kick the tires and slap the sticker on!!! I have a ten sec 2000 Z
that always passess inspection down here

5K miles a year or less in PA and your exempt from emissions so they just look at your typical brakes/tires/etc. My car passed on ET Streets with the bare minimum of 3/32 of tread. I was impressed. I'm gonna miss that law

I choose to be legal because it wouldn't be worth being hassled by cops.

Well, you said EAST of Katy, not West. Twenty minutes WEST would be pretty far out there. Even so, I'm in Pearland, so it's still kind of far. lol.
