looking to buy a gun
ok guys im looking to buy a good rifle, i dont know too much about them as this will be the first gun i purchase and would like to go to the range just for fun. The ones i have been looking at are the m14, m21 and possibly m25. i dont really want to spend much more then a grand but really as cheap as possible. any recommendations? thanks

If you want a sniper rifle style gun for cheaper...get a 30-06- my preference- or something. If you want a military gun for collecting and shooting at the range get an ak-47. Or if you have the money get a ar15, but I am warning you they are expensive due to our greatest gun salesman, obama.
But if you want a military style sniper rifle get one of those...
But then again I'm a big game hunter and I love my 30-06

x2. Remington 700 has many variants and styles. .308 is updated 30 06 round and also a military round which is good because the chances of there being a surplus is high in the future and it could make it real cheap. The 700 runs anywhere from 600-1000 bucks depending on stock, style, and chamber. Then spend the rest on a scope. A leupold or a zeiss, or a higher end nikon. A good scope can run anywhere from 300-700 bucks. Then you will have a combo that is deadly accurate. If you are wanting to spend 1000 bucks on the gun alone then look at some of the thompson center rifles. The Icon made by them is a super nice rifle. You never said, but are you looking for a bolt action or semi auto rifle? The above are all bolt actions. If its semi auto, then a m16/ ar15 is good choice, but prices and ammo have skyrocketed since NObama can along. Just my 2 cents take it fwiw. Josh

if you want cheap to buy, maintain, and use, go for russian. AK-47 is a good plinker, and a Dragunov is a good 'sniper' type rifle. you could get a much more accurate rifle than the dragunov for a similar price though.

I highly doubt you'll find an accurate semiauto for cheap...m14s aren't exactly cheap.

It depends on what you want to do. If you don't plan on hunting or doing any competitive long distance shooting, why get a bolt action long rifle?
If you want something practical, get an AK or AR-15. Fun to go to the range with and real enough to protect your home.
Personally, when going to the range I find shooting my hand gun the most fun and also cheapest alternative. 5.56 and .300 win mag isn't exactly cheap compared to 9mm and .45 ACP. Just my 2 cents.

My AK 47 was cheaper to buy, maintain, ammo 1/3 the cost, not nearly as accurate. people tend to do what there told when its present though haha

If your looking for an accurate rifle, like has already been said, but a remington 700 or a savage(I like savages because of the adjustable trigger). I have many custom built rifle that started with remington actions in calibers ranging from 22-250 to 325 wsm.
I also have some AR10's that I shoot alot. The one on top has shot sub 1 1/2 groups at 500 yards consistently.
I shoot a few ar15's also. They are the best bang for the buck due to ammo being cheap. If you want to go this route, dont beleive all the hype, they can still be bought for the same price. You just have to have a good dealer in your area.Heres a few of the AR's.

This will probably be your best route...I just bought a Remington 700 SPS Tactical .308 and put Leopold scope on it and it's damn accurate for a 20" barrel and I've shot it at 600 yards with no problems.....I also had a custom built AR15 for $1,050 its my target rifle for matches and I shoot it at 600 yards all day long ( The furthest distance at my range is 600 yards lol I wish they had an 1,000 yard )

I have a Springfield Armory National Match M1A that has only had 300 rounds thru it that I would be willing to sell, it's in like new condition. I also have some surplus .308 that will go with it. Lemme know if you are interested.
