Default No more Sumitomo tires

No more bullshit Sumitomo tires for me. Last Friday on my way to work, my left rear
tire blewout and spun me into the barrier on 59 @ hwy 6.

The 315/35/17 HTR II tire had over half thread left. I had front end and wheelwell damage.

It's at Classic Chevrolet and waiting on the Allstate claims adjuster.

Yeah, lucky no one in front or back when I spun. The rims and tires were bought used, don't know how old they are. I'm going back with nitto NT555r extreme ZR all around.

I hope insurance takes care of me.

Tires have a date stamp. They "expire" after 6 years. I'd be curious to see when yours were made.

I've got full coverage, will let you know how it turns out. When I get a chance, I'll get the date code.

Did you have that 315 on a stock width rim? I noticed they look like the original SS wheels. If they are, I wonder if that could have helped cause the failure? Never heard of that before, just a thought.

Age of the tire could be a factor and also if the tire has ever been run flat, which could have also been a underlying factor on why the tire seperated.

1. I am glad you are ok
2. I run these on the back of mine for DD duty.

Warranty speaks volumes for Sumi's faith in this tire. It IS the cheapest tire out there in this size...by a lot. Due to that, don't expect anything amazing. That's in general.

Specifically, blaming a whole brand when so many factors are unknown is silly.

1. You bought a USED tire
2. Age is unknown
3. Treatment/care is unknown (has it been driven when flat or very low, what PSI were you running, etc - all these apply to previous owner primarily?)

IF this was on a 17x9.5, he had this coming, but that looks like a repop 17 x11 to me.

I think this could happen to any brand of tire. I had the exact same thing happen on my Goodyear F1's and those are one of the most expensive tires. It could have been worse though.

One of our OEM Eagle F1s on the '02 SS did this the first year. Luckly my wife didn't spin the car.

I'm glad you're OK.

wow these are the exact tires i had before i went to the drag radials. the only thing that impressed me about these tires was the price, putem on there cause i was broke at the time. i remember how bad these tires were, they were so hard i could spin them in 4th. lolol
