Unhappy Daily driver wont start.

I have a 04 Grand am that wont start all of a sudden. The security light is flashing with the key in the on position. Any ideas?

Well never mind, after looking around and posting on here the light went out and I got it to start. I would still like to know why it did that if anyone knows.

I'm assuming your ignition key has a sensor on it that slides into the lock cylinder when you start the car. Try cleaning the key with alcohol. Also, if you have a lot of stuff on your keyring that's putting excessive weight on the key while it's in the ignition, it may be causing the problem as well.

Other than that, you may have to get the lock cylinder and key replaced eventually.

My TA did this once and I had to go to the dealer to get a new key made. If it keeps doing it I would go in.

if the security light is blinking next time leave the key on till it stops blinking usually 15 mins. then turn the key off then start it. its a problem with the passlock system. we fixed hundreds of these by replacing the ign switch and cylinder. there is a resistor you can put into the bcm to bypass it. youll have to look it up on the net

VATS system. Similar to what our fbody's have. Dunno on how to bypass it on a grand am though, I'd imagine it's the same.

Ill try cleaning the key. Only have house key and key fob on the key ring. I'll look into bypassing the passlock seeing how I had the key in the ignition for a good time yesterday looking for a problem and the light stopped blinking after sometime. Thanks for the help.
