Default Fastest Way to Houston?

Coming from the Temple, TX area.

I usually take hwy 36 through Caldwell, Sommerville, Brenham, etc. but I really hate the fact that it's nothing but small 2 lane FMs all the way.

I was considering taking i-35 to Georgetown, taking the toll to 290 and then taking 290 all the way in - most [if not all] of those roads are 2+ lanes both ways. It may be more miles, but I think it would be faster and smoother...

Any suggestions?

if you are worried about the roads then this may not be the fastest way but the roads are good. come through hwy 6 to college station and pass by and get 290 from 6

i suggest the College Station way due to your avatar pic! Gig 'Em!

Hey what part of houston you trying to get to?

Anyway, I always run 35 down to 290, and take 290 all the way in.

I have also taken 35 to 71, 71 to I10. That definately takes longer.

My GPS took me some crazy *** backroads way last time, took almost 4 hours lol. Thanks alot TomTom.

south..ish..side. I'll be on the SE side for 2 nights, and during the day I plan on spending some time N/NW.

I think 35-290 will be the easiest way. IIRC, 290 is 2-lanes both ways, all the way in, right?

actually, fastest way from temple to CS is FM485. Takes you to Hearne just 20 miles north of CS.

However, i35 to 290 is probably the fastest method of getting to htown
