Default Red Ring of death. Who's had it?

I know the xbox has a 50% success rate, so this isn't a bash thread. Mines three years old, just seeing who has had it and what they did when they were out of warranty. I saw the "towel fix" but I don't really have much faith in that.

Is it over 3 years? Cause they extended the warranty to 3 years for rrod and e74 errors. The "correct" way is to take it apart and do stuff (xclamps, etc...) to it. Search on craigslist for someone to fix it (probably about $30).

i called them and they said the error wasnt covered and it was out of warranty. i got a email from a friend with a link to the page showing the issue was now covered and i called them back telling them this was my issue and asked if they could help me in any way since it was, in fact, a known issue. they sent me a new xbox as customer satisfaction.
in the 3-4 years ive had my xbox, ive been thru 4-5 at least. ive had a 100% failure rate till this newest one. ive had it for almost a year now. lol new record!

It's about two months short of three years. Thanks I'll look into it.

Depending on the cause of the rrod. I fix them all the time remove xclamps loosely apply bolts, over heat, tighten bolts and your good to go until the next time.

I had the RR a couple weeks ago and came across a site that told me to check my power supply. Make sure all the cords are plugged in fully. Mine just happened to be loose a little and when I fixed it I haven't had the problem again.

Hopefully its that simple for you too..

we have had 2 xbox burn out. we found some crap on youtube what we had to do was add some pennies wrapped in tape(sounds dumb i kno but it works) and remove some screws and it worked for about nearly 1 year. we took it to some guy to fix it better later tho and i think he charged like 60$ and he added the thing to play burned games wich he sells for 5$ each. you cant beat that and he also gives you like 4 or 5 games for free when you take it to him. hes somewhere off of 290 and sam houston tollway. found him on craigslist.

There are plenty of ways to fix them. Takes 15 minutes and a few bucks in parts. I someone does it for 30 bucks or so, that is a reasonable price. I have fixed many. I usually use the #8 washers and put on the bottom side of the bolts where the clamps go. And I also replace the heat sink compound since their stuff is always rock hard like it should not be.

Also, don't do that backup game mod. MS is banning those consoles from xbox live and if I am not mistaken, I think they are banning the screen names as well.

I'm starting to hear about the PS3's getting burned up, and having a yellow light pop up. I have had my Xbox two years, and never had a problem. I did put a cooling fan on it, and download all my games to the hard drive...........knocks on wood.

Just go here for how to permanently fix your 360. I've done this to five 360's and it's fixed them all, no issues what-so-ever. The problem is with the motherboard warping when the 360 gets hot. This repair fixes that issue. Just take your time and follow the steps outlined in the guide and you'll be golden.

Mines been covered under warranty twice.......I bought it in 2006.......The original lasted about 10 months, sent for fixing. 2 years later another red death issue covered under the 3 year warranty.
