Default apartment recommendation (downtown austin)

Will be at UT next year, looking for a good apartment complex in the area. want to be a fair distance away from campus (so i'm not paying 1k a month for rent) but good community, neighborhood, etc. seen some stuff on east riverside, but reviews are only so-so. Any austin people can tell me which ones are good?

What ever you do, do not move to East Riverside!!! As a student look at Hyde park, West Slaughter, or Brodie area. Riverside is Ghetto, that's why it is cheap.

so even the nicer apartments in the riverside area, like off southlake shore and pleasant valley, are a big no-no? there's a cluster there of a few large complexs of only students... my main concern is that i don't want to be constantly replacing my car windows or tires...

They just claim "it's only students". I know alot of people who live there and almost all of them are not students. Some of them are pretty shady. Just a forwarning, I wouldn't live there. The only places that require you to be a student are the off campus private dorms. In fact I wouldn't move anywhere in east austin.
