Any opinions on this Trans Am?
Ok so I was hit by an 18 wheeler today and I need a fender, front bumper and headlight cover, maybe the whole headlight piece. I don't even want to look at my car because I feel so stupid, but thank God the hood is ok. It wasn't even bad at all but he hit me just hard enough to crack the pieces.
I found this Trans Am for $2,000 and figured maybe I can throw $1,500 at him and see what happens. I wanted to use the nose parts I needed for my T/A and pull the engine/trans for the 70 Camaro. He said the motor is blown and needs head gaskets though, is there anyway I can check the motor to see if it is still worthy?
I can't find any of the parts I need within a reasonable distance so I figure **** it, I will buy this whole damn car so that way I know I will have the parts I need.
Can I part it out enough to make my money back? I know the hood will sell easy. Honestly I don't mind if I only make $1000 from parting it out.

I was like WHAT! and about to hook up the trailer until I scrolled down...and I agree, since it has a straight body you could get $500 for the roller easy, hell, I got $500 for my 95 as a roller with a straight body....

i don't think the motors any good, i was looking at it also.. love the color but the car just looks ragged on the hell.
its been sitting with a blown head gasket, antifreeze probably in the oil pan for how long?
Also i think it was a 98 witch is the worst of the years...
How did you get hit by a 18 wheeler?

I was in the left turn lane and decided to pull back into the normal lane. I looked several times before I switched lanes and somehow I didn't see him and I clipped his tire. The speed limit was only 35 but he was hauling ***. I guess what happened is he switched to the left lane the same time as I switched so we met in the middle. I don't know if it was my fault or not but calling the cops wasn't worth it since I am sure we would have both gotten tickets. By the time I paid all that I could have gotten it fixed already since the damage isn't that bad at all. I work at a body shop so all it is going to cost me is just what the parts cost.
Maybe I can pull the oil plug and see if it's all nasty inside. The car isn't that far away so I figured I can go look at it and make an offer.

I would not buy it for the fact that its a 98 and the motor is a little more difficult to retrofit into the 70. The computer and tuning are going to be more difficult and also the heads don't leave many options. Also, if it had blown head gaskets then water was probably in the cylinders and they are rusted like a **** now, which mean a boring is necessary. I would pass, just my 2 cents, Josh

Alright thanks guys.. If I can't get the car for $1000 then I will pass. I figure for $1000 I can always get the parts I need and part it out for my money back considering it's a WS6. Especially since that's what people seem to want for just the parts I need. I will start off at $500 though and see if I can't negotiate.
It's sad because that car is so sick looking.

Damn guy, you just got that car and you already wrecked it? Lol. If that's an OEM WS6 hood, and it's in good condition, you could sell it and make a good chunk of your money back.
The WS6 hood on YOUR car seems miraculously unscathed.

rear deck lid on that car will bring a few hundred too.
The 98 block is junk, dont do it. You CANNOT bore them, the sleeve is thinner than 99 and up's. The oil galleys are different too, they have some oiling issues at higher rpms. junk that motor, keep the T56 and part out the rest, swapping in the 10 bolt and selling that 12 will bring a hefty chunk of change too
