Default cost to remove and replace a ls1 in a 4th gen

whats a fair price to have a shop remove my ls1 and replace it with another one. probably only the front accessories would need to be swapped over since everything else is on the replacement engine.

I don't know about current shop prices, but I know it used to be around $60-$70 an hour. It would probably only take one to two shop days to complete it, as long as everything thing is there and nothing breaks while working on it. My cousin and I have done it at a friend's shop in one day, from roughly 7am to around 8pm. That's starting with a car with a bad motor, disconnecting the wiring / hoses, dropping the front subframe, disconnecting the trans, removing front accessories, removing motor, placing new motor on subframe, putting on front accessories, reconnecting the trans, bolting the subframe back up, and reconnecting the wiring / hoses. Also we had a few breaks to go to the parts store for things we needed along the way as well as for lunch and dinner.

Whatever you decide to do, make sure you get a reputable shop/mechanic to do the work for you or you'll just end up with more problems down the road.

tks, i did contact a local shop and they quoted a min of 2k but the guy on the phone said it would probably end up being higher. i thought this was too high. about 5/6 years ago hpe charged around 1k to do a r&r on this car. this time i was looking for someone local to me in the clearlake / pasadena / freindswood area. anyway if 2k is now around the std i may have the excuse to buy my maxjax and do it myself.
