Default 383 ls1 build need help

I have a rebuilt stock ls1 short block that I wanted to throw into my formula since I blew the last one due to water getting sucked in through my turbo, I was originally planning on dropping the stock block in but I've decided to build a 383 since the rebuild is out of the car. I've already priced a rotating assembly from eagle for the build and plan on running a s/c-turbo cam from edelbrock. I'm also needing to know how much to bore the cylinders for the build, what heads, intake,tb,valvetrain etc..to run with the build. I will still be running my sts kit with this build so any advise and help I can get will be greatly appreciated.

383'ss are bored and stroked. google the measurements. run 317 heads lowers compression ratio but flows like an ls6 head. good for boost. id run an edelbrock victor jr fuel injection manifold w the elbow, 90 mm tb, and get some small **** like rocker arms, roller timing chain. etc.

Pretty much what he said^^^ Also be sure to get some good valvesprings to support the cam, like Patriot Duals. You can run the stock rockers, or get some Yella Terras.

What is all this going in? Do you have the drivetrain/suspension to support the power you'll be making? What are your goals? Will it be a street or track driven car? All of these are questions you should answer to get better responses...

these are not like the old like the old 350's where you have to bore and stroke them. using the stock bore which is 3.898" bore use a 4" stroke and 6.125" rods you'll end up with a 382ci ls1. you can hone the cylinders but not much. its actually a little inexpensive to build and if built right you can make god power.

thanks for the advise and the 383 i plan to build will be going in my 01 pontiac formula. who would be the best bet for the 317 heads? as far as the drivetrain goes i plan on upgrading to an aluminum driveshaft w/a safety loop, im thinking of sticking w/the stock rear but adding a t/a girdle and upgrading the brakes. i have eibach pro kit springs up front but still running the stock springs out back due to the fender cutting into the sidewall of my 315s when i had it dropped. i already have a torque arm, lca's and a pan hard rod from umi but i will be replacing the sway bays, bushings etc., but open to ideas.

well if your going automatic then yea the ten bolt will hold up. donnys old car had a stock 10bolt with 2:73's, stock 16's, and dr's. ran 9.8's all day and daily driven with a 383 and a 300 pill connected to a th350 and a 3600stall.

LS1 383's are all 4" stroke. Max bore for an ls1/ls6 blocks is .005 which is basically a hone not a bore (and that is pushing it). I would probably look into some heads that are designed for a 3.9 inch bore. 317's are designed with a 4.0 inch bore and have a larger combustion chamber to accomodate your boost. Run some dish pistons and look at the vendors for some small bore, high velocity heads. Can't go wrong with AFR.

redz, even though the AFR 215s were tested on a 4.060 bore unlike the AFR 205s which were tested on a 3.9 bore, would they be a better set to get since AFR claims they're better for forced induction apps?

3.905 is usually as big as people go. I THINK the 98 blocks are even less.
