Default Moving to Texas, have emissions questions!

Hi guys. I'm from NY and recently got a job in Texas, about 20 miles east of Austin. My car is a 2002 Camaro SS and I've got LT headers and no cats. After the mod, I took the car to a shop where they tuned out the code for the cats so I could pass the OBD II test here in NY. The first go round, a shop just hooked up the computer, saw there were no codes and passed me. A year later, I took it to the same shop and a different guy was doing the test, hooked up the computer, then decided to go above and beyond the call of duty and did a visual inspection. He saw I had no cats and failed me.

I did some checking on the Texas DMV website and saw that only select counties perform emissions inspections, but they all require a "safety inspection". I though "ok great, then I'll just drive to one of the counties that doesn't do an emissions inspection and it'l pass". However, upon further research I saw that as part of the safety inspection, every place is required to do a visual inspection for cats, meaning I'd fail regardless of where I took it.

So if anyone out there has any suggestions or advice for me I'd really appreciate it!

Most of the time if you pass the computer test, the inspector is too lazy to get on his hands and knees to look underneath the car. Maybe you can find a resonator that looks like a high flow cat and have a couple of those welded in to pass the visual.

I have never seen a guy look under any of my past rides. One time I had a new exhaust done and the guy took everything out. About 2 hrs later hebwas done then he did my inspection and passed me without a problem.

But the other day I was at Wall-Mart here in Ennis and there was a lady wanting an inspection done on her car. The guy grabbed a hand held computer thing and punched in the info on the car and started his inspection. I'm not sure what that was but I assume it had a checklist for him to go by as he was doing it.
It's kinda hit and miss. If they fail you there will always be a guy around the corner that will pass you.

Or, you can just ask on here for a sticker and not ever worry about it again.

That's pretty cheap. (unless that is what you are trying to say)

I bought a house in Joshua outside of Burleson in Johnson County:

3/2/2 Appraised @ $105,000 in 2006

Paid $91.5K for it in 2005

Little bit over 1600 sqft

On alittle over 1/4 of an acre

Taxes= $2600/yr

My old man bought a house in Fairfield way back when for $70K

3/3/2 on 2 acres and 1900sqft in Freestone County

Appraised in 2004 @ $160,000

Taxes paid= $900 bucks a year without any exemptions, w/ homestead ex it was dropped down to $650 a year

It's crazy how much of a difference 90 miles can make on a homes value. And honestly if I could do it again I'd have bought his house and just sucked it up and drove the 90 miles to work everyday.

My old man has a house

I was thinking the same. My 1208 foot house in a neighborhood is 1540 a year.

We are fixing to build a 1850 foot house on an acre in Santa Fe, wonder what it's going to be?

Just don't move to Travis county and you will be cool. Shops can be hit or miss about looking for cats. Passed one time because my bullet muffler in the Y looked close enough to a cat.
