Default tranny pulled ....what a b#@&h

So I pulled my tranny out last night. Them bolts at the top of the bellhousing are a pain. 5 hrs and a bunch of cussing. Looking at it I wish I had headers and exhaustto put in now while its out. I bet I've bugged the crap out of Craigslist posters and some of our members to trade for tattoo work. Lol. I'm determined though. That's how I'm getting my rebuilt tranny. Tattoos for transmission not a bad trade.
Haven't drove the old bird in almost 3 weeks. I'm antsy should have it back running by tomorrow

Sweet. Lifts help a lot when pulling trannys off these cars. Last time I pulled mine on a lift, took about 30 minutes.

Getting them back in is worse than getting the top bolts out..

Did you take the cross member off to let the tranny hang down? You'll need a 3ft extension with a swivel and it's 'easier'.

I would almost rather do a fwd than a rwd. Especially if it is a manual. Did lots of them and you dont' have to crawl under the car very much. I hate auto fwd.

Took us about 5 hrs. Not too bad til we got to the top. And yes we let it hang down as far as we could without letting the support of the Jack off

That's what I use and it's not bad at all.

Only time I cuss is when I'm pulling a T-56 that has never been out of the car and the dowel pins have corroded inside the case. Have to use the pry points and muscle it off. Then I always put a dab of high temp axle grease on the dowels before reinstall.

That's what I have to do tomorrow. The Guy who had it before me obviously thought the same thing because it was missing 2 of the top ones.

This.

Hell, on a truck, Ive got the top bolts without even a swivel. There is enough wobble in 5 feet of extension.

I had the ratchet just infront of the rear axle. The extension wrapped from the bottom of the tranny, all the way to the top bolts.

If you want pain try doing it in a vette. You drop the entire rear-end / transaxle.

i learned many years ago that its easier to pull the motor and trans atached on a 93-02 fbody.
takes me bout 3hrs. to completely pull engine and trans. and can do all the work outside. and thats with a engine hoist in the driveway thru the top.
no way in hell will i pull just trans.
its all coming out togther. its actually easier and faster for me imo. plus i can work on anything else that needs attention

I kind of wondered if it wouldnt have been easier to just drop the whole Kmember than to just remove the trans. It was a ******* nightmare getting those corroded dowels to break free.

Too bad you're not close. I'm looking for a 1/2-3/4 sleeve as trade for automotive work.

I can have a new tranny swapped out in 3 hours while taking my time.

I did my clutch a month ago without even taking the exhaust off. All by my lonesome too.
