Default New Tint Laws in Texas?

Hey! I heard that the tint law in Texas recently changed ... Do any of you know if this is true?
The best I've been able to find is 25% on the side and anything on the back....

I'm looking to get the 'Vette's windows tinted tomorrow and wanted to know what I'm in for!

Yes. I think you are right. Its whatever on the back glass and 25% on the side. But once an Inspector Lady came by my work and mentioned something about 20% on side.. hmmm..?
Personally I prefer 5% all around Never had an issue in 4 years! Lol

It is 25% now for the front two windows only tho and you can fail inspection if you have anything below that on the front two windows. You can go blacked out on any of the other windows. But as long as you have a hook up or the inspection guy or girl is in a good mood you should be fine with whatever really.

"A clear (un-tinted) UV film is allowed anywhere on the front windshield without a medical exemption being required. "

Never noticed that rule before, looks like I will be doing my windshield after all, so tired of dash cracks!

You are incorrect.

Side windows behind the driver seat are exempt from tint limitations, same as the rear window.

This is straight off TXDPS website from the link above. Where are you getting your information?

Window Tinting Standards

Revised window tint laws effective September 1, 2009.

What are the actual state driving laws for after-market window tinting?

Side Windows to The Right and Left of The Driver
Sunscreening devices can be applied to the side windows to the right and left of the driver if the following conditions are met.

Sunscreening devices, when measured in combination with the original glass, have a light transmittance value of 25% or more.
Sunscreening devices, when measured in combination with the original glass, have a luminous reflectance value of 25% or less.
Side Windows to The Rear of The Driver
(Revised September 1, 2009)
These windows are completely exempted from regulation under the Texas Transportation Code. Reference Legislation: Senate Bill 589 (PDF)

I went to TXDOT's site and a few others. All show the Sept 2009 law. Someone sent me the other info a couple days ago. I'm trying to find out where it came from. I run 5% and had no problems until this last inspection. It doesn't look like someone made it up, but you would think TXDOT's site would have the latest info. I won't change mine (at least I'm hoping not to), but I would like to know what the legal percentage is.
