Default Does this sound like a good deal?

My friend found an older guy that has an '02 TA WS6 for sale. What's special about this particular one, is that it only has 300 miles! We went to take a look at it today, and it looks brand spanking new. Still had the floor mats wrapped in plastic in the trunk and he had the manual and window sale sticker in the glove compartment.

The guy said he only drove it a few miles every weekend to get the fluids and parts moving. Obviously it's 100% bone stock down to the paper filter. He had it stored in a temperature controlled storage unit on his land.

He's asking $35k for it. I think it would be a perfect collector car, or project car.

Lets see.. 2011 5.0 with a 6speed and 3:73 gears

Or a 02 TA Ws6 with only 300 miles..

As much as I love TA's I wouldnt have the heart to do anything to the car other then keep it stock, There for I would let more of a car collector buy it.

So for me, id buy a new car and mod it and beat the **** out of it.

But i can see how a car collector would enjoy that car.

The car MSRP'd at the most $32k back in '02. Why would it be worth more now? Sure it's got low miles, and in great condition, but is it a collector's edition? Anything else significant about it?

Yeah, but I was thinking about the long term investment. This guy is pretty old. I'd say late 70's early 80's. I'm in my early 20's. Say I buy it from him and maintain it the same way he has, but for many, MANY years. Now that Pontiac is totally GONE and this is a basically new, totally ORIGINAL WS6, it will easily be worth 6 figures 30-40 years down the road.

Also, at the rate these damn kids are totaling F-bodies, it will be even rarer. Hell, by the time I retire, the money I get from it could be a nice little chunk of change.

Barring rare exceptions, cars are never a good investment.

I sincerely don't foresee 4th gens going up in value.
Do you have a place to store it? Comparable to how he did? If you don't, you'll have to find a place, and that's money, so already the car (that you wont be driving and you paid more than what MSRP for a NEW one was 9 years ago) is becoming a money pit, and you plan on saving it for 30+ years?

Yikes!

Yeah, I guess you guys are right. I was hoping it would be worth around 100k after many years due to how many people like it, and how rare it will be. But then I think about all the classic cars that aren't worth that much. I was trying to be optimistic I suppose. (think Plymouth Cuda)

Save your money and buy a clean first gen to save. Better investment imo.

I would say buy something you can drive and enjoy. Cars should be driven.

How about you take the $35k, store it in a climate controlled high interest investment for 30-40 years and see what it looks like; I bet it'll be more than the car is worth.

I understand 35 is too much for this car- but before we say 4th gens won't be worth anything let's remember what a 2nd gen sold for in the early 90's.

Unless you have 35k laying around, good luck getting a loan on a car almost 10 years old. Will there be value down the road, probably not. everybody wants to say well look what the 1st gens are bringing right now so there is a chance. That is not a good comparison. Most cars from the 60's to early 70's will be the most valuable American cars ever built.

I know people will flame, but I think $20k is too high for that car. I don't see a 2002 F-Body being worth all that much down the road.

Only reason it would be worth a lot is that it is a perfect example and the car was so popular.

That being said I do agree $35k is wishful thinking
