Progressive insurances new snapshot program.

http://www.progressive.com/auto/snap...questions.aspx

Basically you get a fob that pluugs into your ADL and moniters your driving habits.

NO thank you

I read that they are mainly looking to see how you brake etc.

some people said that they drove 90+ with it and their insurance didnt go up one bit.

dunno though since i don't have progressive.

It's purely voluntary and it's only on your car for 90 days or so.

I'd be more worried about proposed black boxes in all new vehicles being manufactured in the US

They tell you it's no risk, ergo no matter what, your insurance won't go up, but with safe driving habits, it could go down.

I ran one for a bit (at the request of my ex ) in my truck, and lo and behold I didn't get an insurance discount. Probably because on the 2nd day or so I had it in there, I went out 1409 in Dayton to pick up a car with a trailer, and about 4 jackasses either pulled out in front of me or slammed on their brakes in front of me to turn, making me slam on my brakes and damn near wreck my truck.

Either that or I just drive like **** anyway

i dont think they're using it to jack up your rates if you speed. if anything, its to deny claims because the box detects speeding or other things

Wife had it on the tahoe. It saved us few dollars because of her save driving. It shows how many times you brake haRd shows how many times you speed up heavy. It's pretty cool thing I forgot it was on one day so we didn't save **** that month. You take it off send it back they send you a new one but its really not worth all the hassle of taking it off and mailing it.

This isn't some program designed by them to spy on you, it's purely voluntary. I have progressive and opted in to the snapshot program and got a 20% discount because of it. All they do it monitor how many hard brakes you do (they consider a hard brake slowing by 7mph or more in 1 second). Your rates will NOT go up because of it, I asked an agent a slew of questions before agreeing to it. Or you can read the FAQ that the OP linked (which he clearly didn't do) before jumping to the irrational conclusion that they're out to get you.

You're an idiot if you have progressive anyways. That's one of the worst companies to work with...next to Fred loya and the general
