Default Photography gurus come inside

Ok, me and the wife are wanting to invest in a good camera. We have the stupid point and shoot bs and want something that will take some really nice pictures. Since having a child a year ago we find ourselves taking a lot of pictures and desire more than what the run of the mill point and shoot can offer. I have been doing some research and reading reviews and have narrowed it down to the Canon Rebel t3 or the Rebel t3i. My price range is around 500-700 bucks. Is there another camera that you guys like and think I should consider? I want something that takes very good quality pictures very fast, has a burst mode for action shots, etc. I am kinda partial to canon but also know that Nikon makes a good camera. Any help or suggestions is appreciated, thanks, Josh

Interested to see what everyone recommends, I've been looking at the t3i and seems like a good camera but I don't know much about cameras

$800 for the t3i if I remember correctly

I'm looking to buy a good camera and stick with it for a while and learn and evolve with it

I have found some good deals on the t3i for around 700 from amazon and some other suppliers. If the t3 is a good camera and will save me a few bucks over the t3i then I will go that route.

I use the Canon T2i and have been completely happy with it. I did buy it with 2 lenses however. One for normal shooting and one for the track so I can zoom in where I need to. I just point and shoot in sport mode for most of my track pictures so I capture the wheels up pictures. In full auto it takes incredible pictures at 18Megapixels so cropping is always a choice.

Some of the guys I've taken picture of have taken the large image and had posters made out of them. Gives you some nice flexability.

Isn't one of the big differences between the t3 and the t3i that the t3 has around 12.x? megapixels And the t3i has like 18, also the display is like 2.7? for the t3 compared to like 3.0? For the t3i

Don't quote me on those, hopefully someone can chime in on the actual differences

I can second that exactly.. Our T1i stays on "Auto" 90% of the time and the pictures (and video) come out awesome. I can only imagine what it could do in the right hands.

I've recently bought a Canon SX30is. 14.1 MP and 35x zoom. It'll actually zoom in to 140x and takes really good pics, video, and won't break the bank.

I've recently been doing a lot of research, I'm getting the Nex-5N look into it. It's great, got to play around with it for a while and I love what it can do. It's considered and "EVIL" camera but I was really impressed with the quality of it all.

If your going into the D-SLR's the T2i or T3i are great. (No experience with nikon Sorry)
I own a T2i got 3 optional lenses and 3 filters. As most people will tell you... just because you own a high-end camera doesn't mean you know how to use it. I've had my T2i for about 2 years now. I still find my self finding new features and options.
The T3i would be great in all the areas you are interested in shooting.
Now if you want a point-n-shoot then I recommend any Cannon or sony.

Any Nikon or Canon DSLR will do just fine for what you are wanting. I personally shoot Nikon, but it's simply a matter of personal preference. Even the base model DSLR's today completely blow out of the water a lot of the older pro and semi-pro camera bodies, and both companies are constantly advancing across the board.
