Default Need help?? has anyone ever seen plugs like this ?

Ok so its a 2011 SS cam only, decided to run a little nitrous so pulled the plugs and replaced them, also gapped the new one at 25 to be safe, so loaded the car on the trailer and head off to the drag and brag out at tms, first run heated the tires and ran great, and didnt use any nitrous at this point, next run pulled up launched hit 2nd then as soon as it went into 3rd car lost all power and just didnt sound right so we shut it down. Got it back to the shop and pulled the plugs and every one of them are screwed, never turned on the nitrous and wide band was at 11,9 at WOT the whole time

Physical contact? That's what I'd guess.

did you have the bottles open? (thinking possible nitrous controller failure/wiring incorrect could have fired it even if you didnt)

looks like it was so lean it melted the plugs with probable detonation.

where is your wideband in the exhaust system?
how many, or all 8 plugs looked this way?

how is youre fuel system set up for the nitrous? possible loss of fuel pressure after nitrous kit install causing lean issue.

i would be thinking pretty hard about pulling the heads to make sure everythign is in one piece under them.

**edit
what spark plugs? what heat range?
firehawks post makes me wonder if you were using the wrong type of plug, but i sort of assumed that... you knew better...
if it is all 8 plugs, then then the wrong plug with physical contact is another idea.

need more info from you.

I was thinking the same things as you guys. I pulled up the plugs on my Napa ordering site and they all looked like the long reach type. So it's not an automatic contact but it sure looks like it. It would be hard to believe the factory tune couldn't pull out enough timing to prevent that unless it was really lean. Leaking nitrous or inadequate fuel under load. I've never seen that happen as described.

Post pic of another plug that's not melted.

Honestly I don't see any way to get that much heat on a 2011 camaro plug without using nitrous.

So did it spray or did you attempt to spray?

Bloo, post the specs on the new plugs you just installed for the track runs. Brand and complete part number. Also make sure the number on the plugs is the same as the boxes or receipt. It seems hard to believe that even if you got the hottest plugs on the shelf that two naturally aspirated gasoline runs at the track would do that much damage but who knows? You were running pump gas right?

I didn't tune the car. I don't make mistakes like that.

The owner of the car apprently ran a total of 32-34 degrees of timing with 150 pills and is having to put a new motor in it. He failed to mention that he did knowingly use the nitrous system when the failure happened.

I thought that too. But I could tell his story was a little shaky. He said no spray on the first run very specifically, then said they ran it again (with no specifics), then said they didn't use nitrous. I picked up on it in the wording then I scrolled down and bam!

OP, if you want real answers post real info. Anyone that has played around with nitrous knows wtf happened as soon as they saw those pic's.
