I am kind of excited and this is the entry level offering. Can't wait to see what GM has planned for the Z06, ZR1 etc....

In other pictures, it looks like they swapped the intake and exhaust valve locations from the current LS motors. This will likely mean that existing headers won't fit if people want to swap this new design engine in to their existing LS powered cars. That sux.

^^^ I believe you are correct. There are quite a few enhancements going into this GEN5 motor. I am most excited about the direct injection system, apparently there is an extra cam lobe that drives the DI pump, which is fed by an in-tank fuel pump. I wonder how more fuel will be delivered when guys starting modding these, guessing it will be done via tuning?

I just hope the intake manifold flow properly. I'm tired of having to swap out to aftermarket plastic intake manifold for almost a grand lol

I'm more worried about how the car will look. i won't be able to afford one till they are out a few years.

i wonder how much headers will cost? ~$2500?

The DI pump, looks like it is fed by a traditional in-tank pump. CP is from GMinsidenews

"cam-driven fuel pump: The direct injection system features a very-high-pressure fuel pump, which delivers up to 15Mpa (150 bar). The high-pressure, engine-driven fuel pump is fed by a conventional fuel-tank-mounted pump. The direct injection pump is mounted in the “valley” between cylinder heads – beneath the intake manifold – and is driven by the camshaft at the rear of the engine. This location ensures any noise generated by the pump is muffled by the intake manifold and other insulation in the valley."

That cam is small, can't wait to see how a nasty aftermarket cam performs in one of these.

I reall think GM hit this one out of the park..NA,DI, DOD, cVVt, 450hp-450ft.lbs (VERY CONSERVATIVE RATINGS) 6600rpm fuel cut off...And the ability to run 0-60 in under 4sec in the C7...SMDH CAN YOU IMAGINE WHAT THIS THING WILL DO ONCE TURBO OR SUPERCHAGED..Or just run off E85

GM has really took some pages from the race book on this one=Forged crank, Scavenge HP fuel system, oil jet piston cooling, oil trap oil pan etc.

No Vette or Camaro for me..But Impala SS, CTSV or ATSV and I'm there..

It will be very nice to see how the 5.3L version stacks up against Fords 5.0 and EcoBoost TTv6?
The new GM full size trucks debut in Dec (production has already begun) and the Gen 5 engine will be in them soo?? Looking up the dates for the LA autoshow now!!

No more LS development from GM though--Long live the LS Baby!

you'll have to look into the diesel world for this answer. You just add a belt driven high pressure pump and tap into the rail. like the guys who run dual cp3 pumps on their duramax cummins etc

LMassOff..Yep!

Lighter and more fuel efficient than the BMW and MB TTv8s but makes just as much or more power..Nice!

Jesus ******* christ. Aside from the design looking awesome so far, there are 24 other letters of the alphabet they could have used other than the same name that has been accompanied by laughter for the past 14 years.

Also i wonder how much power the stock DI system will support before being upgraded, if at all.

And i wonder how hard it will be to crack the new OS.

Im really excited about this. Hopefully megasquirt comes out with a unit soon so people can do conversions easily.

The exhaust port and spacing look like common current ls. Bolt pattern and spacing?
