Hey folks... looks like I'm headed to Houston for approx. 18 months to build the next job and was hoping some of y'all might shed some light on what areas to be looking at for housing, and what I can expect to pay in those areas?

Currently live in Atlanta... fly home every other weekend(so they say)... , so thinking furnished 1 BR apartment w/a garage. Taking the truck AND the Z , so my biggest requirement after a good area is a garage.

Any advice?

Where is the job located? How fancy you want to live lol?

Lots of apartments here have single car garages- definitely need to know what part of town you'll be working in before starting to look

Don't have a physical address but believe it's inside the loop. No need for big time fancy, but do have that upper middle income lifestyle that I've grown accustomed to. Trying to stay around $1k month but not sure how far that goes in Houston.

Just curious, what's the mileage around the loop? I've been looking at the surrounding areas around the city of Houston... trying to get a ball park idea of drive times from one area to another...

The loop is just under 40 miles around . It don't seem like that far until you try to get around it in Houston traffic . I think you will want a better idea of where you will be working before deciding on where to rent housing . I have not rented anything in many years , so i am not sure what kinda place you can get for $1000 . But I personally would be looking at a regular house to rent with a garage . I know a few people who have rent houses in my area and they seem to be going for around $1200 - $1400 depending on size . That is also for here in Crosby where I live , but it is only a 30 minute drive to downtown .

Houston is huge, you'll definitely want to live within 15-20 miles tops from where you'll be working. http://www.har.com/ will help you shop around to see what you can get for the buck.
