who the hell puts a fertilizer plant that close to town and neighborhoods? I heard dozens of homes were flattened.

Biggest news to come out of Waco since...well David Koresh. Who builds a fertilizer plant in the middle of town anyway?

Fixed that for you. Anywho, it's pretty bad. A lot of my friends are near there and a few worked the triage at the football field all night last night. Crazy stuff.

Yikes, rough week in waco history. Like after most tragic events, there will likley be change, hopefully for the best for the Waconians.

You do realize I was talking about the town of West, not Waco. Pretty sure that old town was there before the plant, but the city leaders allowed its construction, profit over safety.

My wife's family is from West. 2 of the 5 fire fighters that died are related. As far as plant location goes. The tank farm at my plant is behind a neighborhood. There are houses 50feet from a crude oil tank. Profit over safety is the american way

The plant, when it was built, was not built near homes. It was built in a empty field on the outskirts. West expanded and the direction that it expanded just happened to be in the direction where the plant was. But yes, stupid decisions were made when permits were issued for other buildings to be constructed so close to what was essentially a giant bomb.

Coincidentally this happened 66 years and a day ago:

Fertilizer accident. Thought that maybe, just maybe someone would learn from it. But being thta long ago, it's most likely forgotten.

Prayers go out to all the families involved.
