Exclamation Anyone have any experience with a Jeep Wranger?

Thinking about ditching my work vehicle, Dodge Ram 3500 dually for a Jeep Wranger, maybe a Sport or Sahara.

I've never had one before, anything that I should look out for? Any common problems?

Thinking of getting a brand new 2014 or maybe a slightly used 2013-up model. I definitely want a hardtop over the soft top, and the two door model.

Most expensive golf cart you can buy. I had TJ. Nothing like being caught in the rain when you leave your soft top in your garage. Damned lying weather man.

Well i have actually been into jeeps for over a decade, and although i dont have a wrangler, i have wheeled with alot of guys who do. That newer V6 is decent over the pre-2012 one, and the only major problems with them is poor gas mileage, and problems that occur when you start to lift it. In stock form they are pretty good.

They are cool but Small---Suck fuel---No power--Over priced---jeep rhymes with cheap. Have had a few wranglers and several Cherokees. Cant beat a locked cherokee in the mud or climbing but for daily driver==NO. To each his own though.

Default 97' TJ here

It is a lot of fun on a real short trip and that about covers it. It is a six cylinder and it is still a turd. It is great for a third vehicle though so I can do things like work on the other two. If you do opt to go cheaper and keep the Dodge, I would definitely go TJ not YJ.

Jeep also rhymes with HEAP. And everything about a Cherokee sucks. One of my all time money pits was an XJ. I can't count how many Outers and pinion gears I broke in those damned undersized Dana 30/35 on 31" tires.

Here's a suggestion. IF you can find a cheap TJ and you most likely won't, then swap a 5.3 into it. My buddy in Hawaii has a 2002 and gets way better mileage and drivability since swapping the 5.3.

I had one a long time ago. It was a dog. No power. Could barely pull itself up a hill. I eneded up rolling it over and broke my back. Nearly paralized me. If it had been any other vehicle I'd have been dead. The roll bars saved my life.

They are tough as hell. When I went to the big island with my wife we rented a 2013 wrangler and I beat the hell out of it. There is a road near Mauna Kea that is through a lava field with pothole over a foot deep. I was driving 50+ mph on that road and it handled it very well. I jumped it as well as put it to work on an old pig trail with no issues. Of course that was the V6 wrangler not the slug straight 6. However it was terrible to drive on the road and got horrible gas mileage for such a small V6. Not to mention I got wet all the time because putting up that soft top on the side of the road in the middle of a surprise torrent is literally the most difficult thing I have ever done.

check out wrangler forum or jk forum... i love my jeep i have a 2014 4 door wrangler.. some people love them and some hate them.... main reason i think is they expect a lot of comforts and amenities other vehicles offer or have and the jeep has minimal...i came from a chevy z71.. but had a jeep tj prior to that.. gas is about 16 mpg in the city... but i don't mind i still love it

Exactly! My buddy just paid about that for a used 50k mile 4 dr Rubicon with gabbed bumpers. Every time it see it I just can't believe how much money can be wasted on a vehicle. They are awesome but used 150k mile TJs are still going for 8k plus. Guess there are a lot a ken doll hairdressers out there who wanna live the south beach life and have the money to pay for it.

Money is the reason I recommend a TJ. Just don't pay the first CL price you find and don't expect a Cadillac.

wow 40k.. i paid 28k.... they got ripped.. and mines no rubicon but it sure isn't stripped either.... main reason i bought it new is because dealers and private sales over price used jeeps.. but somehow they sell for an outrageous amount of money. I looked at several used jeeps in dealerships and they were priced higher than new jeeps... same model no mods.. it's crazy

I had a TJ with a hard top. I-6 and an automatic. It was a turd on acceleration, got horrid gas mileage and was kind of unpredictable at higher speed. It had it's charms though, easy to maneuver, pretty reliable, and fun to drive. I would own another one if they were so crazy expensive.

i had a decent 01 TJ with a popped motor slip right through my fingers that i had destined for an LS swap. It even had an AX15 and long armed. I was too lazy to load up the trailer and get my lazy butt out there. and when i say cheap i mean 3800 for a roller. so that just goes to show what a running one sells for. id rather have a K5 or Samurai.

X2.. never understood where they came up with the price for the Wranglers. They hold their value like crazy though.

I could see if they had a sophisticated 4wd system or something.. but nope, solid axles and an open diff (if non-Rubicon).

I had a 1998 TJ LS1/4L60E swapped in it. Was fun as **** to drive. Being older, I can't handle the shitty ride though lmao. Damn thing felt like it had a solid suspension and no springs. Pretty sure I have back problems due to it.
