Good paint/body shop in Houston
Ok guys I've decided that a good waxing/buffing isn't going to fix my car. I've recently had some body parts painted and it's making the rest of the car look like garbage. Does anyone have some good recommendations for body shops? Id prefer someone who can do it on the side as I'm not looking to drop a bunch of coin. This is not a "I'm looking for the best shop I have 10k to spend thread" but I also don't want a bullshit paint job.
I can't believe I'm saying this but I'm actually considering going to Maaco on 1960.. They quoted me $1100 for their "best package" and it comes with a 5yr warranty.. but man I just don't trust those guys.
Take in mind my car is like a micro machine (77' 280Z) and a few pieces are all ready painted. I don't think it would take much to get her good again but I'm just not willing to learn paint and body right now. I will send the car with the fenders and bumpers removed as well as the doors to help save time and effort. I will provide the paint (PPG) but painter will need to provide base/seal/clear. The car needs to be painted same white color and there is minimal body work needed (small rust spot of the bottom of one panel)
Let me know!

I read your post in it's entirety and I'll give you the best answer I can from my experience.
I've had two cars painted by a place in Pearland called Main Street Paint & Body. My TL was $1400, and my Mustang was $2000. The paint jobs aren't too bad but they did a lot of stuff that will cause me to never take a vehicle there again.
They jacked my Mustang up from the radiator core support, bent that all to heck. Painted my chrome tail pipes yellow, then covered that up with black, forgot to paint the mirrors like I asked them to. And when I went to pick it up it had a few GIANT runs that I had them fix before I took it.
The TL - poor body work, lots of wave lines and orange peel all around, forgot to repaint the painted areas around the windows.
Had Lane's Hi-Tech repaint the driver's side door and front fender on my Vette after Discount Tire dropped the car off of the floor jack, and his work was flawless, he charged $600 to do that. If I were you I'd swing your car by his place and just get a quote, can't hurt.

I have a guy here in Spring Branch that does beyond excellent work. Its a small quiet shop, they mix paint in house and he has the equipment to match the color you want. He is the only person I would trust my car to, and I have sent a few very satisfied people to him without one negative response. Give him a call and tell him Chris referred you. His name is Mario, number is (832) 43three-012eight. (have to keep the spam away from his phone.)

Do not go to maaco. They will literally scuff your car with a red 3m scuff pad and paint it. Paint does not adhere properly when you don't prep it properly. Not to mention, they don't take the time to properly tape off your vehicle and you will have over spray every where.

Call this Maaco, they've done 4 cars for me, and several friends cars/racecars, they've done a phenomenal job, they can do a nice job for cheap, or you can spend more and get an Autorama trophy.
Call over there and talk to Chuck and tell him Mike Peters referred you.

Paint shop
These are collision shops and do poor custom work.
If you can find someone who can do good body work there are some good sprayers out here.
Macao on Clay rd near hwy6 has a guy that can lay it down!
I wouldn't get them to do the body work though..
I would supply my own paint also as they use low quality paint.
If you are handy and time is not an issue I would give it a shot at prepping the car myself and taking it to get sprayed.
I got hosed by a shop on hwy6 and Little York.
I ended up having to paint the car myself!!!
I took me almost a year but it came out really good..
It's not a show quality job by any means but it looks better than factory.
I used a $45 Home Depot HVLP and it worked well but I'm going to paint another car soon so I bought a better quality gun so I won't have to wet sand the clear as much.

I had Marcel at Rush paint the engine bay in my Trans Am. He did an awesome job and kept to the time table.

i had a friend that got his car painted my maaco, i am almost positive i could have done a better job with a rattle can... i get that you dont want to drop a lot of coin on a paint job, but you get what you pay for.

I know exactly what car your taking about and it wasn't just a paint job..and there were consistently more issues then sanding and painting.. before you talk about a shop, tell the whole story rather then hearsay
