Default Modded trans am sputters at WOT

I recently bought a 95 trans am that was modded by the previous owner and left aside when he bought a new camaro. Car ran fine for the first few days but then It started dying on me and wouldn't start up. Took about a minute or two to start. The car will do fine if I up shift myself and only if I slowly accelerate up to 5-6k but it will sputter and drop the Rpms or not respond at all at wot. Also I get a strong odor of gas. A mechanic in town told me that it could be the fuel pump or the opti because the car had been sitting for a while. In drive the car will not go at wot. This is my second trans am and I know what they can do but thiamine feels sluggish and weak. Thanks for your help.

Very shitty mpg, and I thought about it but I don't know much about the lt1s to determine. I had a ls1 for the longest time and I'm barley learning about these engines.

I'm shocked you bought an lt1 AFTER owning an LS. I've owned a few and frankly I'd rather have a sepositry filled with AIDS. Hope you get it figured out.

So after checking the car the fuel pressure I saw that the car would lose all pressure at wot! It would lose pressure little by little and my mechanic also checked the opti and saw that it was damaged. I changed the opti and I'm getting the fuel pump changed right now!! Thanks for everyone's help

I'm amazed no one has thought about unplugging the MAF and see how it runs.
