I put a 228/230 cam and all the bolt on BS for a friend. I made the joke to him might be able to set some high mileage records with it. I will try and post up an idle video and possibly some racing video later in the year, if she lives.

Cody that 5.3 C10 had over 300k and I installed that Lunati. Cam bearings still looked great. Just ran an Emory cloth over them and installed some Advance auto parts pushrods and stem seals. Routinely drove that truck at 7kish rpm without issue. I LOVE the LS family motors. I don't think there is a better motor built

Many people tend to forget that as the motors rack up the miles the clearances tend to open up on bearings and rings. That's not always a bad thing if your going to run it hard. Drive it like you stole it! Really what's a 200,000 mile motor worth if you tried to sell it $200-$400 ?

Everything is broke in completely so it's somewhat stable compared to a fresh build. When you build a high performance engine it's normal to open tolerances so that as things heat up they have room to expand. On a stock engine those tolerances are tighter but as it wears they naturally open up some.
I would still check the engine over and run a leak down test or at least a compression test before wasting to much time on it. If everything checks out I would at least put a new timing chain in it if the cam is going to changed.
I'm not saying an old worn out engine is better than a fresh engine but if your going to abuse an engine I'd rather abuse something that has little value or build a new one made to handle what you intend to throw at it.
Stock low mileage 6.0 is going to cost you $1500-$2000+ to replace
A performance built engine is going to cost you $3000 and up.
A high mileage junk yard 6.0 can be bought for $500-$1000 ( I have two that cost me $250 each) If I'm going to take an engine beyond it's limits I'd rather risk a few hundred than thousands of dollars.
