Default Cost of block machine work in Dfw?

So I did a search and all the threads I could find were several years old or from other parts of the US. I know pricing is largely location dependant soooooo I'm looking to build an iron block, stock crank 370. Forged rods and pistons for a turbo build. I'm trying to get an idea of the cost of Machine work around DFW. The usual, cleaning, boring, honing etc, and shortblock assembly.

Also, is it pretty much a necessity to have the pistons to give to the machinist before finishing bores or just a nice thing?

I want good work but don't need crazy expensive top fuel kind of work. Any ideas of what decent work cost. I've heard 600 all the way to 2500. I'm not made of money.

I'm curious too. My friend with a machine shop retired and shut down, so I doubt a case of Shiner will cover it anymore...

I've been told Kim Barr, Watts, and Morgan and Sons are some of the best. I called Calvert and Metroplex Automotive. Waiting on Kim, Watts, and Morgan for replies.

Im getting a 370 rebuilt right now , Nothing crazy just a refreshed new bearings, rings, oil pump, top to bottom gasket kit, crank turned, torn down and re assembled short block and its costing me 850

Oh and yes it includes cleaning & honing of the block and checking the heads as well. As far as boring goes I wouldn't know. I know he charges 100 to Sleeve each cylinder.

I talked to Barr, Watt, Morgan and Sons, North Texas Machine and Max Long.

I ended up going with Max Long in Irving and was satisfied with the work, price and turnaround time. I just needed simple stuff done (cleanup hone, balancing) and he was the only guy that used a measurement of weeks, not months like everyone else. A few friends have since gone to him as well with good results.
