I would say....it depends on the damage.$$$$ I wouldn't see them spending more that 1k. The year....miles have alot to do with it.

Depending upon the insurance company, they usually total a vehicle when the repair will cost @ 40-60% of the vehicle's value. Some insurance companies will allow you to buy it back from them for what they will get from the scrap yard. You have to ask them about it if you want to keep it for any reason. You will not get a clean title though if you do.

A lot of times on older vehicles they'll total due to parts availability, or if it's some thing that's going to be a major hassle of trying to find stuff for it, etc. The buy backs aren't that god of a deal unless the cars heavily modified and you can part it out.

Car has 128k miles.. Just bought it about 3 months ago.

I ran over a hwy light pole due to some lady hydroplaned in the WB lane of hwy and she knocked it over in my EB lane. Was raining hard and I had no time to react. Crazy exp

Hope it's not a total loss.

If repairs are more than 75% of blue book value, they total it. You can dispute it and have your mods added in to the value, but generally they just total it out because these cars are old and not worth much.

Something else you can do is try to find a shop that will work with you on the side and lowball the insurance company to keep the estimated cost down so they won't total it.

This is why, if you really value your car you buy agreed upon value insurance. It's not perfect but it will stop a lot of the BS.

When my 99 was totaled, I had just put in a new FLT trans and Circle D converter.

Car had 175,000 miles on it, first offer from State Farm was $7800, I asked about partial compensation for the trans work, provided receipts, and they came back with $9000.

I'd say that's pretty damn good for a car that old with that many miles on it. This was my own personal experience though. Hope it works out for ya man.

It used to be 66%, but it has been years since I checked into it. But basically it comes down to what the vehicle is worth vs the repair costs.

My brother had a 97 WS6 totaled by state farm in 08. They offered around 7 and he did not accept the offer. He pushed hard that it was a collectors item and a WS6 the next day. The fact of it being a WS6 and that he bitched they ended up giving him 12k. That way over priced for an LT1 car even in 2008 so just push the fact that its a SS.
